Hull & East Yorkshire Children's University

Year 5s from Biggin Hill Primary School enjoyed an ACE day at HFR Solutions CIC, learning about future career paths and taking part in engaging training sessions. They were raised up to the second floor to work at height, lowered into the purpose-built confined space training area, taught how to use fire extinguishers, and how to put someone into the recovery position and use an AED. What a busy day! We extend huge thanks to Joanne Wooden and the whole team for such a well-organised experience. Additional thanks go to AMS Global Group, who sponsored the child-sized safety equipment used and to Brenan and Liam for joining us for the day. It was clear that, whilst all children had fun, grew in confidence engaging in something new and learnt lots of life skills, for some children this really was the start of a potential future aspiration. Thank you for helping to ignite dreams!

Our Year 8s learned about careers in creative arts on their Step Up Move On experience earlier this week when they visited the University of Hull. Thank you to Ed Grimoldby from GrimVisions for an illuminating introduction to digital projection in theatre and entertainment! The young people were encouraged to participate in poi dancing and created their own performance for their adults. What a fantastic workshop! The young people were inspired by the different roles and despite their insecurities at the beginning, every single person participated and worked as a team to create something wonderful! ‘A Day in the Life of a University student’ was our focus for our Year 11 Step Up Move On students this week. Thank you to the University of Hull for your support in hosting a variety of activities including a tour of the Medical Centre, an exclusive look at the law courts, a peek at the Student Accommodation and a Cook Stars cooking on a budget session in the student kitchens! A fantastic group of our Step Up Move On students had an incredible experience at DoubleTree by Hilton Hull earlier this week learning all about careers in the hospitality industry. They discovered how to make beds in housekeeping; set and clear tables correctly for big events; explored allergens in food and became mixologists creating their own mocktails. We were treated to a behind the scenes look at how a busy hotel works! Thank you to Andy Craggs and Samantha Dunion for hosting and organising such an educational and inspiring visit. Our young people came away with a greater understanding and appreciation of career opportunities in hotels. We appreciate your support in providing learning outside the classroom for our your people with care experience. 💚 HEY CU - Eco Hub 💚 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming businesses and academics to our brand new Eco Hub at Thwaite Gardens in Cottingham. We are going to be delivering engaging environmental sessions to primary school children - encouraging them to become ‘Eco Heroes’. The children will explore gardens, woodland and greenhouses, whilst learning about sustainability and their impact on the planet.
