Hidden Keileon

Civic and Social Organizations

A multidisciplinary art collective creating the yet-to-exist and hard-to-imagine.

About us

We create the hard-to-imagine and yet-to-exist. We are six multidisciplinary artists, strategists, thinkers, researchers and curators focused on making change. We collaborate with people from migrant and queer communities like ourselves to imagine futures with justice and freedom for all. We dream up and lead community building and life-affirming cultural projects across the UK and beyond. We build safe and brave spaces for all. We demonstrate a fluid and non-hierarchical collaboration. We make use of the transformative power of arts and culture to create new possibilities and ideas. Our name ‘Hidden Keileon’, is inspired by a mythical symbol of hope, reflecting our commitment to amplifying the stories and cultures of overlooked communities. We make the unseen seen, the unheard heard, and the unimagined a reality. Our Vision: Futures with justice and freedom for all.

🌲 Running Hidden Keileon CIC as an artist collective without core funding has its ups and downs. We get strength from each other to keep innovating in the arts, practising a new culture and dreaming of beautiful futures. However, feeling defeated by endless no-s from institutions and witnessing the ongoing destruction by systems we cannot refuse to participate in are daily. 😦 In the past months, we received rejection letters from multiple funders as we are on the journey for core funding. It is getting even more confusing when some of these funders are looking to fund art collectives dissecting social justice issues through culture, which is the central theme of Hidden Keileon CIC. The decline in cultural investment for knowledge and capacity building is endemic. 🔮 We know we are not alone on this. With peers, partners and commissioners by our side, we know we are on the right path. We are open to feedback and guidance if you are experienced in seeking core funding for running migrant/queer art orgs on social justice issues 🍄 We are announcing four upcoming events very soon, including collaborations with local government and a theatre production. Please keep your eyes on us and we shall deliver. Hope to see you at all of them! Mark your calendar: 7 Sep @ Catford Broadway Theatre 21 Sep @ Catford Library 22 Sep @ London LGBTQ+ Community Centre 12 Oct @ Pleasance Theatre, London

The Hidden Keileon team stands in solidarity with our communities who are affected by the recent far right riots across the UK. As a migrant and queer collective who believes in building futures with justice and freedom for all, we are deeply affected. These acts of hatred are a stark reminder of the ever-perpetuating colonial damage manifested as state-enabled violence towards those dreaming in collectivity with love. We are threatened, but are never petrified. What happened is the direct results of years and years racist and Islamophobic narratives, spread by irresponsible politicians and news outlets. The mainstream media have been weaponising working class struggles to incide demographic division that leads to physical violence, diverting systemic failures towards non-white migrants. It is important to see the shared frustration across various backgrounds, and more crucial to protect communities who have been walking the street in fear of white violence. We call upon our friends, colleagues and peers to stay in community and call out everyday racism, xenophobia, and discrimination. Whether you are targets of the hateful mob or of privileged backgrounds, the far-right fallacy does not stop at one demographic; fascism fundamentally aims to shift economic anxieties towards illusive scapegoat, or the “big other”, and enabled by complacency of silences that dismisses the escalation of evil. No one is free until everybody is free. In Solidarity and with love, angela hui wai nok Bonnie Chan Ghost Chan Jeffrey Choy John Chan Sandra Lam

🎪🎆🎰 We did our first fair stall at Chisenhale Dance Space's Community Fair at Ugly Duck. Congratulations to those who won prizes at our Gacha Machine and won the auction of the cassette tapes! Being alongside others who are 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒉*𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 has been a liberating experience. To know that we are not in the work alone and to acknowledge the necessity for us to be in the solidarity with each other are crucial. We look forward to future connections and building radical friendships with more of you. Please do not hestiate to contact us at info@hiddenkeileon.art if you would like a chat.
