Lottie doll has arrived at HMGCC! (She is now just looking for a parking space). Our VIP, pint-sized guest will be spending a week with us to meet some of our women engineers and scientists. She will be finding out more about what they do and picking up some tips to share about careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Lottie is visiting as part of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) Lottie Tour, an annual campaign that takes Lottie to different locations, visiting engineers who show her the work they do in science, technology engineering and maths (STEM) related careers. Follow us on Instagram (@hmgccofficial) to see more of Lottie’s adventures next week #WESLottieTour #WESLottieSummerTour #HMGCC

Gender bias, deepfake detection and machine learning ethics were just some of the hot topics discussed as part of a special event in Milton Keynes – all focused on artificial intelligence.    The HMGCC-organised symposium, entitled ‘The Challenges of Responsible Generative Artificial Intelligence’, attracted a range of speakers from local and national organisations. These included the Alan Turing Institute, Works For Us, Gartner, Aiimi, Origami Labs, Fuzzy Labs and Faculty AI.     The public event was staged as part of the Milton Keynes AI Festival 2024, which ran from 28 October until 1 November, to mark the first anniversary of the government’s AI Safety Summit – held last year at Bletchley Park.    The event was attended by a 40-strong audience who had the opportunity to ask questions, prompting discussions into both the pluses and pitfalls of working with AI.    Read the full story here:  https://lnkd.in/eRfK8Hvg #MKAIFestival #GenAI #HMGCC

Experts are being invited to apply for the latest national security challenges released by HMGCC Co-Creation. HMGCC Co-Creation is a pilot initiative which involves reaching out to academia and wider industry to help find solutions to national security challenges. One 12-week challenge (deadline 21 November) explores the use of AI or other novel technologies in penetration testing secure IT environments. This week (7 November) will also be the last chance to apply for two other challenges currently being run by HMGCC Co-Creation. The focuses of these separate challenges are: eavesdropping risk using AI; and the search for an emulated phone solution to potentially help the NCA in its future work. The full details of each of these challenges are available here: https://lnkd.in/eGrhaYCA For a list of all our collaborators please visit the Co-Creation page on our website.

HMGCC recently participated in the MK Innovates STEM Festival, an event dedicated to highlighting technologies and career paths in science, technology, engineering and maths.   One aim of the event, which was held at Unity Place in central Milton Keynes, was to engage all those considering futures in STEM, particularly those who are under-represented in these areas, such as women. HMGCC’s activities during the two-day event included hosting a talk, taking part in a panel and staging a stand, enabling visitors to take part in entertaining STEM activities and find out more about opportunities in national security engineering.   For the full story see our website: https://lnkd.in/eQfTFc_U #MKInnovates #HMGCC

Two halves of Alan Turing’s World War 2 history came together when Bletchley Park’s CEO paid a recent visit to HMGCC. Bletchley Park CEO Iain Standen was a special guest at HMGCC where he was given a tour showcasing some of Hanslope Park’s history. Iain was also given an overview of some of the World War 2 artefacts held at HMGCC. Turing’s name has strong connections with Hanslope Park as he spent 18 months of the war here, developing a speech encryption system which came to be known as Delilah. A team of volunteers led by John Harper are currently being supported by HMGCC engineers in an ambitious project to rebuild Delilah. The replica was among a collection of artefacts on display during this visit, tracing HMGCC’s history back to its origins in 1938. Today we mark Ada Lovelace Day as just one opportunity to recognise the important part women have played in science, engineering and technology throughout history. Named in honour of mathematician and computing pioneer Ada Lovelace, the day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into these careers and support women already working in these areas. #AdaLovelaceDay #NationalSecurityEngineering

Government offices follow rigorous guidelines to ensure any rented spaces used for its work are as secure as bespoke buildings. In this latest challenge, HMGCC Co-Creation invites companies and academia to devise a solution that can be retrofitted in offices or other locations used for government work to enable soundproofing for secure conversations. HMGCC Co-Creation is a pilot initiative which involves reaching out to academia and wider industry to help find solutions to national security challenges. The challenge is looking for an innovative solution to providing acoustic dampening. The solution needs to be easy to install and flexible in how it is used. More details about the challenge are available from our collaborators. For the full list of collaborators please visit our Co-Creation page: https://lnkd.in/exqsSn3w
