Recently, for #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay👩💼, we welcomed to Hanslope Park engineers, Dr Natalie Clewley and Dr Kenisha Garnett from Cranfield University, to talk about the importance women in engineering. Throughout the event, it was clear that the female voice provides crucial perspectives and ideas that can offer solutions to the most complex problems💭🧠. Beyond this, the speakers shared their advice to our young engineers, managers and even parents who were among the audience: 💬Young women with technical expertise can forge resilient and lifelong careers in engineering 💬Having mentors can be fundamental to building strong career foundations early on 💬Be willing to try new things and take on opportunities If you’re interested in a career in engineering, sign up to our job alerts on our career's website, and stay tuned to all our opportunities: #INWED #EnhancedByEngineering #Engineering #Careers #TechnicalEngineering #UKNACE A series of images showcasing quotes from two Cranfield University female engineers, with accompanying images of female engineers.

Are your conversations secure? 👀 In our latest Insights article, our experts explore the technology behind lasers and how they’re used as a form of technical espionage. A sophisticated technique that can be used without entering the target location🎯, it’s potentially used by state threat actors, but it’s not unknown in the corporate world either. The technique enables threat actors to intercept conversations👂 in any room with a window to gather corporate or sensitive information. Our experts share their advice to help you reduce the risk of a laser eavesdropping attack: ✔Install heavy blinds or curtains over windows which could help prevent a laser beam reaching a target ✔Make sure, where possible, offices are not overlooked or in the line of sight of other buildings, especially high-rise apartments, which provide threat actors with a platform to conduct a laser attack ✔Ensure a clear desk policy to reduce the number of objects in a room that would be easy for a laser to detect sound wave vibrations from #UKNACE #Lasers #DidYouKnow #TechnicalSecurity

We had a great time at the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) Fair🔬 👩💻 🎨 at the University of Northampton on Wednesday. There were over 70 organisations in attendance, with pupils from a number of different schools from Years 6 to Year 13. We had a brilliant time sharing the work we do with the students, and they even got to test their technical security skills on our bug wall where there were lots of hidden cameras to find📷🔎. It was a great day out and hopefully we’ve inspired some of the pupils to consider our apprenticeships in the future. #STEAMNorthants #Inspiration #STEMEducation #Careers #UKNACE Image description: A series of images showing UK NACE's exhibition at the University of Northampton's STEAM fair.

Searching for a hidden surveillance device...? 🔎👀 Hidden cameras need power 🔌and a way to transmit or store videos to work. Most commercial devices use batteries, and either Wi-Fi or a micro-SD card to transmit or store data. You may be able to spot a pin hole in a commercially available concealment, which is a good indicator of a camera. Threat actors may use professionally installed devices to steal government or corporate information.  These are harder to detect, so their detection and removal is best left to technical surveillance countermeasure experts like our officers at UK NACE. #UKNACE #Surveillance #TechnicalSecurity #CounterSurveillance #Security Image description: A tablet showing various video feeds being used by an individual in a car.

#DidYouKnow surveillance devices can be freely bought online and concealed in a variety of everyday household items. 🏡   Most people use them for innocent reasons, like keeping an eye on the family pet while you’re at work🐕… but they can be used for more sinister motives. 👀 Threat actors can use commercially available cameras and microphones to steal government and corporate information for political or economic gain, with potentially devastating risks.  Do you know how to protect yourself and your organisation? #UKNACE #Surveillance #TechnicalSecurity #CounterSurveillance #Security Image description: A home surveillance system showing a screen of four camera recordings
