Bravo to all our colleagues who have mixed up their morning commute this week and dusted off their bicycles for #NationalCycleToWorkDay. Who wouldn’t feel inspired by that astonishing gold medal win by Tom Pidcock on Monday?! 🚵♂️🥇 During World War Two, before Alan Turing lived at Hanslope Park, he would cycle here from Bletchley Park to use the workshops. The cycle route was about one hour long and took him through quaint villages and open countryside. 🌳 That was 81 years ago, before Milton Keynes existed. Now, with the new city in the middle of the two WWII sister sites, the route Turing would take is very different. But Milton Keynes was built with the cyclist in mind, and with over 200 miles of cycle routes to explore, residents can still safely commute to and from work by bicycle.  Even though Hanslope Park is based just outside Milton Keynes, getting here by bike is remarkably easy. There’s a cycle path for most of the way, which pops you out only a few minutes away from the site entrance. It’s a fantastic route, taking you past canals, rivers, disused railway lines and beautiful parks.  What a way to start the day! 🌞 #NationalCycleToWorkDay #CycleToWorkScheme #LetsMove #AlanTuring #FCDOServices #Paris2024    Image description: Viewpoint of a cyclist with their handlebars in the foreground and two cyclists in front cycling along a tree lined path.

We recently had the privilege of hosting two remarkable women engineers from Cranfield University for this year’s #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay👩💼. Dr Natalie Clewley and Dr Kenisha Garnett joined us in a panel discussion to share stories about their careers in fascinating areas such as AI and geotechnical engineering. It was a great opportunity to give advice and guidance to the young engineers in the audience. All the women, who joined us on the panel, are amazing role models who are an inspiration to our future generation of women engineers.   Throughout the event the messages were clear: 💬 Diversity and inclusion in engineering is crucial. Different perspectives and ideas benefit all types of projects and teams   💬 Women with technical expertise can forge successful and life-long careers💪  💬 Mentors can be influential in building a strong foundation in a young woman’s career in engineering That’s not all... from all the women engineers who took part in our #INWED event, the prevailing message was that your journey is never over, you never stop learning and you grow from your experiences.  . . . #INWED #EnhancedByEngineering #Engineering #Careers #FCDOServices

    • Quote by Dr Kenisha Garnett saying: While you navigate your own individual journey, you can't be afraid of being uncomfortable. Be flexible, be adaptable and be open to different perspectives and experiences.
    • Four images of women in different engineering fields.
    • Quote from Dr Natalie Clewley saying: Reflection has been really important in getting me where I am today. It's all about thinking where I am now and where I want to be.
