Congratulations to our Team Leader, Ben Jackson who has just welcomed his first baby into the world. Baby Leo arrived safe and sound a couple of weeks ago and is very much loved. I wonder if he'll follow the family tradition and become a landscaper.

When you are thinking about investing in a new garden, it's perfectly natural to have lots of questions about the process. You might want to know things like ❓ Is it expensive to hire a landscaper? ❓ How do I find a reputable landscaper? ❓ Do I need a garden designer as well as a landscaper? ❓ How long will the project take from start to finish? ❓ What's the best time of year for landscaping? ❓ Will the noise and dust affect my relationship with my neighbours? ❓ Do I need planning permission for a garden makeover? ❓ Will the workmen need access to toilets etc inside my home? All of these questions are answered on our website, and if you have any queries about hiring a landscaper, the health and safety aspect of a garden makeover, costs or your legal responsibilities, please don't hesitate to ask. As members of the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) we want you to feel safe and confident all the way through your garden makeover from planning to completion. https://lnkd.in/eQ7ygVr3

Glad to have been invited to sponsor this terrific event taking place just down the road from us this weekend. Last year's Little Bentley Beer Festival was a roaring success and this year's promises to be just as good, if not better. Holland Landscapes is sponsoring Nethergate Green Pleasant Land pale ale. Why not come along and try some and support a local cause while you're at it? 26th - 28th April 2024, St Mary Church, Little Bentley, Essex CO7 8SE

At Holland Landscapes we’re lucky enough to be based in a wonderful part of the UK where gently rolling hills make for an interesting landscape. Hills and slopes, dips and hollows are wonderful when it comes to creating intrigue in a space. Every time I explore a different walk with the dogs I find myself wondering “what’s down there?” Or “what will I see from the top of this hill?” When a client asks for sloping garden ideas, the Holland Landscapes team have no shortage of suggestions. During our three and a half decades of building gardens, we’ve encountered quite a few slopes. Living in this part of #Essex, they’re unavoidable. We’re blessed with beautiful rolling countryside, stunning vistas and intriguing landscape features as well as some wonderful open gardens where we can learn from famous landscapers such as Capability Brown, Harold Pete and Beth Chatto. Working with our in-house garden designers, Tapestry Design Studios our team can turn a difficult sloping garden into a small piece of paradise. With easy access to all areas, reliable drainage, great views, seating areas and practical spaces for cooking, eating and relaxing our gardens are designed and built to suit your tastes, your needs and your budget. This blog looks at some of the sloping gardens we've built over the years - I hope it gives you some ideas for your own garden..... https://lnkd.in/e4sVygUg #outdoorsolutions #landscaping

We love showing off our certificates. Here's the latest one, hot off the press, confirming that Holland Landscapes has successfully passed our APL Site Assessment. What does that mean? Well, the APL, ( Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) ) is a trade body that strives to improve the standard of landscaping in the UK. To be a member of the APL, Landscapers, garden designers and professional gardeners must meet minimum standards in their business practices and their workmanship. Anyone doing due diligence before hiring a someone to work in their garden can be confident that APL members are trustworthy, knowledgable, competent and environmentally aware. APL members are inspected every 12 months to make sure that standards haven't slipped. Our certificate confirms that Holland Landscapes holds all relevent insurances, complies with Health and Safety legislation, manages waste responsibly, presents quotes transparently, manages sites safely and courteously and deliver projects to a good industry standard. If your garden is in #Colchester or the surrounding area and you are planning a garden makeover, you'll be in safe hands with us. #gardenmakeover #landscapers

We just loved creating this wildlife pond in Tiptree. So much so that it's almost impossible to pick out a favourite element. I'm really glad that we added a floating deck. It makes it possible for our clients to truly immerse themselves in nature. The deck links the summerhouse to the pond and is the ideal spot for a bit of wildlife watching, stargazing or even sitting and dangling toes in the cool water. The deck was created using Millboard composite decking, a product that's ideal for use near water. Not only is it rot-proof, it will never need treating with any chemicals that could affect aquatic life. The sides of this pond slope gently so that creatures can easily get in and out of the water. But the centre of the pond has enough depth so that living things can escape very hot and very cold weather. Planting wise, we've gone for a variety of marginal plants to help the pond blend into the garden and the meadow area beyond. Different leaf shapes, growth habits and heights offer perches and hiding places for a wide range of insects. Water lilies create shade in the central part of the pond and also add visual interest for human visitors. The view beyond the garden is of course out of our control - but it certainly influences the ambience. Sometimes borrowed views are incredibly useful. #landscaping #wildlifegardening

Throwback Tuesday to this back garden we built for some lovely clients in Colchester. If you scroll through to the 'before' picture you'll see it was somewhat inaccessible before we started work. But the view from the end of the garden was magnificent. Fast forward to completion and there's a large patio with a mediterranean feel to it and steps leading to two broad terraces. We planted trees along the back hedge to make the plot more private - they must be well on their way to being fully grown by now. To get a better idea of the extent of the transformation, check out the case study on our website. https://lnkd.in/eFQqqdTB #gardentransformation #landscaping #throwbacktuesday
