Day 368 of My 500-Day Journey with TryHackMe: Good day, LinkedIn folks! What an interesting day so far! I had a delightful coffee meet-up with AbdulAlim, the winner of the Clusters on Tour start-up competition. This guy isn't just about fantastic ideas involving technology to assist people in finding the right careers through immersive storytelling; think Simeon Quarrie's VIVIDA, but his thirst for knowledge and drive to seek feedback, positive or negative, is inspiring. Definitely one to watch and connect with! My dear friend Jack D. also announced his new role with the fantastic SudoCyber! As a first-year Cybersecurity student at USW, he actively engages in learning from others and connecting with industry professionals. I often mention him in conversations with the lines of: "If someone's gonna make it, it will be Jack", and look, he has 😁 These two individuals, though on different paths, are connected by their game-changing traits: the ability to engage with others, a willingness to learn, and the ability to ask for help in ways that make you want to support them—an interesting lesson for all enthusiasts. In the Try Hack Me world today, I tackled the "DOM-Based Attacks" room. Honestly, it's a fantastic module for understanding what the DOM is all about and how to prevent DOM-based attacks. The final challenge provides hints but isn't completely guided, which perfectly illustrates the real-world scenarios where you have to piece things together...but as it's an "easy" room, perhaps a little more guidance is needed 😉 Now, I'm off to dinner with the in-laws—wish me luck! About a week and a half ago, I had the pleasure of attending an insightful event focusing on commercialising innovation hosted by CyNam (Cyber Cheltenham). It was great to listen to experts from Development Bank of Wales - Carl Griffiths, Pitch & Co - Martyn Ingram and IBM - Luke Gassmann. There were some incredible points brought up during the panel talk such as introducing policy that gives tax incentives to institutions that promote spin-outs and the need for soft skills at universities in order to have greater success in the start-up ecosystem 🚀 After the talks, there was a pitch competition where I had the opportunity to showcase Horizun and get some great questions and feedback. Happy to say that I got shared first place with Jason Croom-Carter 🏆 Thanks to Joe Wells, Dr Clare Johnson, Dr Lowri Williams, Prof. Pete Burnap. , Ewan Deeley, Hollie Wakefield, Charlotte Smith, David A., Robert Ware, Tunde Oduguwa, Abdullahi Arabo Jr MEng,PhD,PGCHE,SFHEA,CSTP,NTF,IFNTF,CANTF, Cyber Wales, HCR Law, UKC3 - UK Cyber Cluster Collaboration for a great event / insightful converstion.

What a way to start the new month. I'm thrilled to announce that Horizun won two awards last night at the Cardiff Spring Start-Up Awards🏆 - the Inspiring Idea and the Crowd’s favorite! There were some incredible teams and founders, it was great to connect with so many talented people. Thank you to Santander - Remy Foucher the prize will go a long way in accelerating the development of the project🚀. Thankyou to the judges Tomas Phillips, Nicholas Davies, Sophie Webber for some great insight! Thank you to the Enterprise team, especially Georgina Moorcroft, Michelle Finnegan-Davies for hosting a wonderful event and Prith Biant, Paula Burns for their support. And a big thankyou to everyone in the crowd who voted for Horizun!🙌🎉 Now it's back to work for me. But first, I'll be enjoying a nice cold glass of Taff Cola Limited - Calvin Bang 🍻

An idea quickly starts to feel real when you say it out loud. Now imagine, pitching in front of 200 people in competition against some of the brightest minds from across the country.🌍 That's exactly what went down last week at the Enactus UK & Ireland Expo that saw 20 Teams competing in the Action4Impact Project Incubators. Massive Congrats to the Southampton team for taking home the gold as overall winners. And I'm thrilled to share that my project, Horizun (representing Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd) emerged victorious in the Schroders cohort.🏆 There were some incredible teams building unbelievable projects and I met some amazing founders with razor sharp focus and ambition. At the end of the day, the people we meet along the way is what matters! Thank you to Charlie Lea, Stephen Brown, Amy Brereton and the rest of the Enactus team for meticulously organising and coordinating such a wonderful event. To the Schroders panel for judging my project and giving me some constructive feedback.
