VESSEL REVIEW: Polish marine data company Blue Armada Robotics has entered into a partnership with UK-based uncrewed surface vessel (USV) manufacturer HydroSurv. As part of this collaboration, Blue Armada has acquired its first USV from HydroSurv, which will be used to serve clients in the uncrewed marine data collection market in the Baltic Sea. Named 'Arctos 1' after the Latin for “bear,” the USV belongs to a series of multi-purpose platforms that also offer long-endurance, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) capability for a wide range of applications. It is ideally suited to self-transiting campaigns within hydrographic, oceanographic, and environmental data collection or offshore asset inspection. The optimised hull is designed to perform well in offshore environments, whilst the subdivision enables the vessel to satisfy damage stability cases. Enhanced manoeuvrability and station keeping ability are meanwhile both possible thanks to two 3.8kW electric pod motors that can be steered independently. Full article link in comments.

    Chief Executive Officer at HydroSurv

It was an honour to speak today at the Westminster Energy, Environment & Transport Forum on Next steps for tackling water pollution in England. Despite the scale of the challenge, the discussion was focused on solutions. Here are some key takeaways: 🔹 Water is central to many government priorities - an intelligence-led approach to river management is crucial. While the technology to improve monitoring is available, securing funding remains a critical hurdle. 🔹 The need for clear accountability and better intelligence on source control was emphasised, with PFAS emerging as a major concern. While storm overflows dominate public debate, we must also consider agriculture and urban runoff as significant pollution sources. 🔹 Catchment partnerships, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and the adoption of nature-based solutions are vital. It’s essential to address these issues from both a carbon and water perspective, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation. Thank you to Jessica Brown-Fuller, Helen Wakeham and the other panellists for their insightful contributions to this forward-thinking discussion. #WEETF #SmartPortsCleanWaters HydroSurv MSeis Chelsea Technologies Ltd

Exciting News: HydroSurv Launches Summer Resurvey Campaign for SONARS Seagrass Monitoring Project! And it's straight into choppy seas! This week we started our second phase of seagrass monitoring in Plymouth Sound - Amongst swell, wind, and tide, our multi-functional REAV-28 powered through, collecting data at a rate and density unseen before, and all without disturbing the seabed. We can't wait to share the outcomes of this exciting project in coming weeks. Did you know: — Seagrass captures carbon 35x faster than rainforests — Supports fisheries worth up to £3 billion annually — Protects coastlines from erosion and storm surges — Naturally filters and cleans our oceans We're using Machine Learning alongside our USV and sensor assets to analyse and monitor these crucial ecosystems and in doing so, will help inform critical conservation efforts. Together, we can protect these underwater forests and secure a sustainable future for our oceans! VESSEL REVIEW: A new unmanned surface vehicle (USV) was recently handed over to the South Hampshire College Group (SHCG), a merged college group consisting of three further education colleges from Southampton, Eastleigh, and Fareham in the UK. Classed as a digital training vessel (DTV) and given the official designation 'DTV1', the USV was built by a partnership formed by local firms HydroSurv Unmanned Survey, Robosys Automation, and SeaRegs Training. The DTV is designed to be controlled remotely from either a shore-based mission control centre or a mothership through digital remote operations with optional AI decision-aided support. The SHCG said the DTV will contribute to supporting learning across new and innovative maritime skills, which will help to address the sector’s skills shortage and regional social employment challenges. SHCG acquired the USV to provide entry-level training for the marine and maritime sectors. This USV, with its advanced core technology, offers numerous learning opportunities that align with the essential skills needed for the future of the industry. These skills include automated navigation, networking and data acquisition, as well as inspection, maintenance, and repair of complex systems and electric propulsion systems. It's World Hydrography Day! 🌊🌊 Each year, #WHD raises awareness about how hydrographic knowledge underpins our activities on, in, and beneath the sea. It's also a fantastic opportunity to celebrate those who work within this vital sector. 👏🏻 HydroSurv is delighted to welcome Lola Henneuse, who recently joined the team for a summer internship from her studies in hydrography and oceanography at ENSTA Bretagne. Lola has crossed the (very well-mapped) English Channel to join us for both professional and personal reasons... 🗨️ “I wanted to learn about an innovative technology that will be the next way of acquiring hydrographic and oceanographic data in the near future. And as someone concerned about the environmental issues of our time, I was attracted by the decarbonised and non-invasive survey technique provided by USVs.” 💬 Internships like Lola's are instrumental in preparing the next generation of hydrographers to enter this rapidly advancing sector, ensuring a solid foundation of working with USVs and their complex sensor and data processing payloads as uncrewed technology becomes more prevalent. Lola has recently completed processing all of the data collected from our recent USV seagrass monitoring projects in SW England. More on that soon...! 🌱 Thanks for your excellent work so far Lola, and for the photos! 📸 #WorldHydrographyDay #hydrography #oceanography #internships #maritimeskills #robotics International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)
