Microlise recently experienced a significant cyber attack, leading to disruptions across logistics networks and affecting store deliveries for several major supermarkets and convenience stores across the UK. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of cyber security within supply chains, especially for organisations handling essential goods and services. Whilst the full extent of the attack has not been disclosed, one potential theory is that ransomware is at play. Ransomware, increasingly targeting operations rather than data theft, poses a unique risk to supply chain stability. As discussed in Brian Boyd’s recent StrategicRISK article, ransomware is not always about stealing data but can aim to halt operations, as seen in the Microlise attack. i-confidential’s Elaine McKechnie comments on the incident and its wider implications for supply chain security in Motor Transport: 🔗 Microlise Incident: https://lnkd.in/dS6Pyisq 🔗 Ransomware Insights: https://lnkd.in/enDeU98X #CyberSecurity #SupplyChain #Ransomware

At the Scottish Financial Enterprise Financial Services Awards we heard from former Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, on the importance of the FS sector and operational resilience. The geo-political situations evolving across the globe, coupled with our interconnected supply chains, can leave us vulnerable at a time when we’ve tried to use these relationships to grow and develop. It’s fragile and we need to understand and acknowledge those risks. Speakers also highlighted the need for financial inclusion with a call for the industry to step up to the challenge. The awards recognised: Business Growth – won by Barclays Net Zero – won by RBS Changing Customer Needs – won by HSBC Skills and Inclusion – won by JPMorganChase Innovation – won by Citi Rising Star – won by Fatima Ceesay Lopez Judges Award – won by Castle Community Bank The Chair’s award went to Mark Napier of JPMorganChase for his work in leading the delivery of the new technology centre in Glasgow. There was also a moving introduction from William McGowan of Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and great progress towards a target of £20k in donations from the audience. Key takeaway from the night? Our FS and professional services community in Scotland is stronger than ever! Recent figures show it is now worth £14.8 billion in GVA (Gross Value Added) while directly supporting 148,000 jobs. Thanks to our guests David Goodacre OBE, Natasha Paxford, Dr. Lydia Kostopoulos (PhD), and Omer Haque for joining the i-confidential team, Louise Beattie, Colin Fraser, Calum Michie, and Elaine McKechnie - it was a wonderful evening.

The Law Society of Scotland annual conference 2024. A whopping 75 years in the making. I go to a lot of events but I particularly enjoyed the exhibition area of this one. Virtual football courtesy of Denovo and Samantha Whalen made it onto the leaderboard #win Real coffee on offer, professional photographer for your LinkedIn photo, chair yoga, golf .. However the conference itself was interesting and I liked the comment “leap in tech means a leap in productivity” we sometimes have to allow ourselves time to learn new tools to save time in future. Fab panel run by Ally Thomson Was great to see MS Copilot make an appearance as a 5th panel attendee, that’s a first. Also supporting YourCashier and their intiative for mental health #ILOVEYC Merch award goes to Digidentity for their cool wooden coaster phone chargers 🙌🏻

Huge congratulations to Barbara Gottardi and the team at Finbridge Global! At i-confidential, we’re proud to be partners with Finbridge Global and excited to continue collaborating on forward-thinking solutions that help power these incredible efforts.

What an incredible week! 🎉 So much to celebrate! I’m so fortunate to have been part of an inspiring experience that showcased the strength, resilience and skills of #femalefounders. Few highlights 👇 💪 HearstLab - an impressive super team led by an inspirational Eve Burton, who leads by example. From over 300 applicants, six remarkable female founders emerged, each with a unique product that solves a problem close to their hearts (and all with 2 kids each!) Thank you Louise Harvey & Azahara García Espejo 🙏 Well done to: 🚀Camilla Frydenbø of Lyll.io 🚀Chloe Sweden of Lowr 🚀Jen Lothian of MyArk 🚀Kayleigh Ciara Kuptz of Deployed 🚀Zoe Rowswell of Tern Eco 🎬 Pitch Event: Flawlessly organized, 5 minutes to pitch followed by tough questions from amazing judges (thank you Katie Vanneck, 😃 David Fogel & Maren Bannon for making time). The energy was incredible, and the shared sense of purpose was tangible. 🔥 Fireside Chat with Hannah Bernard OBE & Lydia Slater: Insightful yet alarming—women's share of investment went down again at 1.8% 😢. Even my 17-year-old math whiz finds that hard to believe. We keep hearing that there aren't enough female founders to invest in, but really?🤔 Are we looking for the same mold over and over again? Time to look a bit harder.... 🤝 #Public & #Private Collaboration is needed: There's a stark contrast between the "faux pas" from Innovate UK few weeks ago and the masterpiece that HearstLab has created, which continues to set the standard by truly putting their money where their mouth is. 💪 There's a lot to learn how they have achived a staggering 85% success rate versus a waste of public tax money which could be spent so much better! 🧁icing on the cake: so pleased to share the win with Kayleigh Ciara Kuptz & Jamie Gannaway at Deployed - 10 years ago we were sitting in 1CS working together for HSBC and now......we can work together on 2 amazing and complementary products! We at Finbridge Global are over the moon🌙 about this achievement, it hasn't quite sunk in yet! But... let’s be real & honest — it hasn’t been easy and a lot of really hard work has gone into it. Mick Barry & Milo Clarke thanks for believing in me and for your patience with my relentless drive! Running a business while balancing financial uncertainty & family life isn't for the faint-hearted. The good days are amazing, but you have to push through the tough ones. And you need to find a good support network! I hope our journey (albeit this is only the beginning!) can inspire other #femalefounders. It’s time for investors to look beyond the usual mold and start seeing the potential in diverse, women-led businesses. Let’s keep breaking barriers, challenging norms, and pushing for change. 💫🚀
