After a worldwide career spanning 40 years in the Oil & Gas industry, including the last 14 years of extraordinary leadership at IKM Testing UK, Mark Rasmusen, Director of our Aberdeen-based division, has decided to retire. We wish him well in this exciting new chapter of his life.      When Mark joined IKM Aberdeen in 2010, we had fewer than ten employees. With his innovative vision, he played a pivotal role in transforming our business into the successful organisation it is today. With over 170 employees, custom-built facilities in Westhill and a reputation for service quality in our market, it’s been a remarkable transformation.     In addition, to the growth in the UK, one of Mark’s standout achievements was spearheading the establishment of IKM Testing Brasil, which has since grown into a thriving company within the IKM Gruppen employing around 200 employees today.    We celebrate Mark’s well-deserved retirement and thank him for laying the foundation for a bright future.           Taking over the reins at the end of March will be Barry Summers as Regional Director. In his current role as Head of Operations, he has worked closely with Mark since 2007 and for IKM since 2011.          Mark, thank you for everything you have done for IKM Testing UK, making us the company people want to work with and for. Skills For The Future - Apprenticeships            At IKM Testing UK in Aberdeen, we’re committed to investing in our people, and our apprenticeship programmes are at the heart of that commitment.    Our range of apprenticeships and traineeships furthers our commitment to developing our people, making us a company people want to work with and for. Apprentices/Trainees gain technical knowledge and expertise on our extensive fleet of equipment and service offerings, whilst our graduate apprenticeship programmes help to build future leaders and subject matter experts. It’s not just Wells we do:    Ever wondered what it takes to successfully grout subsea templates in one of the harshest environments on Earth? Last year, we successfully completed a major offshore project in the Johan Castberg field, located in the Barents Sea—one of the harshest environments on Earth.    Scope of Work: 10 subsea templates completed at the Johan Castberg field, 200 km north of Hammerfest.    Project Timeline: Started in June 2024.    Grouting Operations:  - Mixed and pumped 1,800+ barrels of 2SG grout.  - Used a 150bbl batch mixer to pump grout through a 2" hose reel with a stinger into suction cans.  - Each template consisted of 4 suction cans.  - Over 410MT of bulk cement was used.    The project was completed ahead of schedule with no incidents or injuries. Our responsibilities involved precise volume calculations, equipment operation, and the coordination of offshore teams to ensure a safe and efficient job.     Want to learn more? Pipeline Decommissioning….. Nae Bother!      In December 2024, IKM Testing in Aberdeen mobilised a pipeline crew and equipment to decommission a 16” 33.5km pipeline from a North Sea platform. Given the time of year, the equipment was mobilised well in advance to ensure a swift rig-up and efficient operation.    Due to crane capacity limitations, the IKM crew blended the pipeline GEL from concentrate offshore, ensuring all main lifts remained within acceptable weight parameters.    Project Overview:  - Total GEL Blended & Pumped: 48m³ (two 24m³ GEL pills)  - Total Volume Pumped: 4,472m³ using IKM’s triplex pumps  - Project Duration: ~4.5 days of continuous pumping, from initial GEL injection to final seawater flush    Our client was highly satisfied with the pre-engineering and equipment load-out, and had high praise for the offshore crew. The professionalism and attention to detail has ensured a seamless rig-up, de-oiling and rig down with a successful conclusion.
