Better outcomes cost less, and we're proud to help the sector prove it

About us

IMPOWER is not an off-the-shelf consulting company. Since 2000, we have worked exclusively within the public sector to solve complex social problems by changing behaviours. We recognise that re-designing public services requires deeper citizen insight, stronger relationships and better collaboration. Our in-depth knowledge of the public sector and our understanding of the complexities faced in delivering high quality services with shrinking budgets has enabled us to deliver real results for our clients. IMPOWER is now the country’s largest independent consultancy focusing on change and transformation across all local public services. Our success stems from our distinctive approach that combines a deep knowledge of the public sector with a genuine commitment to better outcomes for those accessing public services. Our Team IMPOWER is a growing team of innovators and change motivators, who use behavioural insight to transform public service delivery. We work with some of the largest and most innovative public services in the country, so this is an opportunity to create high impact, sustainable change. If you have a passion for improving public services alongside the energy and motivation to tackle some of our clients’ most difficult challenges, we’d like to hear from you.

  • Xander, a child with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs, made significant progress through our Valuing SEND approach. By collaborating with his family and nursery staff, we helped him improve his behaviour and communication skills. We're now planning his smooth transition to mainstream primary school. Its been a really challenging couple of weeks for those working at NHS England and the DHSC - my thoughts are with the thousands of people facing a unclear future who are impacted by the announcements. This is clearly a live issue, but Nicole Samuel and myself have tried to take a step back on what is changing, why they are happening, and what it means in the coming weeks and months. Headlines: 💷 Fiscal Discipline is key: heightened pressure on providers to deliver cost efficiencies, potentially reshaping service delivery models. 📈 Performance Metrics Aligned with Political Priorities: a laser focus on key performance indicators that resonate with the electorate (waiting lists, GP appointment access, ED performance). 📍 Centralised Accountability and Direction: The Secretary of State will wield greater influence over NHS operations, with a clear emphasis on top-down accountability. 🚚 "Deliverology" as an Operating model: The reintroduction of "deliverology" will drive a culture of data-driven performance management, with a relentless focus on achieving measurable targets. This signifies a shift towards a more results-oriented NHS, with a potential emphasis on standardised processes and interventions. 🦥 Increased Risk of Disruption: The scale of the restructuring risks delaying system changes at a local level - key to achieving Labour's three shifts. If you are worried about your role or interested in learning how IMPOWER work with front line teams to improve outcomes and deliver services more efficiently, do reach out for a conversation.

Last week, IMPOWER Consulting had the privilege of hosting NHP programme leaders to delve into the critical role of clinical and digital transformation in driving transformation capital programmes. The discussions were incredibly insightful and set a strong foundation for our ongoing research into achieving system transformation through strategic capital investment. 🚀 Key Takeaways: • 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱: All NHP schemes assume extensive clinical and digital transformation across system partners. • 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Failure to deliver these changes could worsen operational, workforce, and financial positions of Trusts. • 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: Achieving this transformation is complex and requires coordinated efforts across systems, beyond individual programmes • 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀: Different schemes have taken varied approaches, emphasizing the need for locally tailored strategies. A huge thank you to all the leaders who participated and contributed their expertise. Together, we're delivering better outcomes for millions of people. #NHP #DigitalTransformation #CapitalInvestment #SystemTransformation

  • To mark International Women’s Day, we held our annual IWD themed 'Lunchtime Listening Club' on Friday. 💜 Colleagues across the business submitted songs from female artists, and we all hit play at the same time. It was another epic playlist comprised of inspiring, talented women. Check out the playlist: 🎵 https://lnkd.in/ecEcNmY8 🎵 https://amzn.to/4hpPbSy The theme of #IWD2025 is #AccelerateAction, which is a powerful reminder that progress on gender equality doesn’t just happen; it takes commitment, action, and a willingness to challenge existing barriers. At IMPOWER, we know that better public services lead to a better society, and that means making sure everyone's voice is heard. We’re proud to build an inclusive workplace where women are supported, valued, and empowered to lead. Later this week we will hold our IWD2025 forum focused on how we will continue doing just that. Let’s keep pushing forward. Let’s keep accelerating action. #EquityInAction

We’re excited to be co-hosting a Local Government Association learning lunch on March 20th, focused on improving inpatient mental health flow and outcomes, alongside Sussex system colleagues John Child and Mark Stainton, with IMPOWER Consulting colleagues James Swaffield and Toni Beckton. It’ll be well worth a join for anyone interested in how partners from across the Sussex system have come together to develop mental health priorities and an implementation plan, which is starting to make a real difference for people experiencing mental ill health, their families and carers: https://lnkd.in/eaEBNz-P
