This week, the Biofibre Special Interest Group and the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping had the privilege of visiting IndiNature's impressive production facility in the Scottish Borders. Alongside Adrian Hayler from Elsoms Seeds Ltd, and Lydia Smith and Jasmine Toole from Niab, we explored the exciting possibilities of hemp and other natural fibers. IndiNature's commitment to sustainable innovation and their state-of-the-art facility providing the inspiration. A huge thank you to Sam Baumber and the entire team at IndiNature for their warm hospitality, showing us around and sharing some of their new innovations, and research and development work. It’s clear that big things are happening at IndiNature, and we can’t wait to hear more about this in the near future. #SustainableInnovation #NaturalFibers #Hemp #ResearchAndDevelopment #CircularEconomy #GreenTechnology #PlantBasedMaterials #InnovationInAction #BehindTheScenes #IndustryVisit

Good luck to all semi-finalists in Scottish EDGE #EDGE24! Coincidentally, this week as an #EDGEAlumni, IndiNature finished repaying the loan element of Scottish Edge funds after winning #EDGE11 in 2017. A great feeling! What a journey! A flashback few images are below, showing highlights that winning Scottish EDGE has enabled since then (see if you can spot us in the crowd!). Checkout their IndiNature case study video here too: https://lnkd.in/eASgNdy5 We will always be grateful to Scottish EDGE - for backing us with grant, loan and encouragement at the start, working with us to help manage through the pandemic, and being a great supporter helping promote IndiNature’s #impact as we scale to the next level. We’re incredibly proud to have been able to reach this point, hopefully proving out the important investment and risk taken by the Scottish #startup support ecosystem as a whole to get new innovative, purpose-led companies up and running for people & planet. Thank you Evelyn McDonald, Kevin Walls, Jack Proctor & all at Scottish Edge, including the excellent Scottish EDGE Judges, and everyone in all the support organisations along the way, and to the IndiNature team - keep it going! Looking forward to seeing the next innovative companies this year! We recommend grabbing an EARLY BIRD ticket for this year's Live Final in Edinburgh, 28th November - and be inspired: https://lnkd.in/ehADQ2-V #entrepreneurship #impactentrepreneurship #innovation #climatechange #hemp #industrialhemp #insulation #SDG9 #SDG12 #SDG13 #SDG15 #SouthofScotland #ScottishBorders #IndiTherm #IndiBreathe #IndiSilence #warmhomescoolplanet #wehaveaplanettocool

Director at Carbon Futures | Building Performance Consultancy | Passivhaus Consultancy | Low-Energy Building Design | Retrofit | Planning | Building Regulation Compliance
Thank you to IndiNature for the quick delivery of their IndiTherm insulation that I ordered to insulate my bathroom during renovation. My house was built in the late 60s and as expected, when we stripped the bathroom back to the bare structure, we found zero insulation in the timber frame, so it will be great to get this insulation added, whilst we do the interior fitout. More works to happen in the future from the outside, as part of a staged retrofit of the home. I’m sure the site team will enjoy working with the natural soft touch insulation, which is made from UK grown hemp. It feels good to be able to use super low embodied carbon insulation with exceptional thermal and moisture buffering properties on my own home. As part of their Build module earlier this year some of our architecture students designed and installed panelling made of IndiNature hemp insulation bats, linen, and wood to improve the acoustics in various rooms in our WISE building. This has been a great success and last week students Brandon, Ellen, Jordan and Amy, assisted by Master Carpenter and tutor on our Tiny House course Carwyn Jones, installed them in our Café extension. A very big thank you for their work. 🔨

One of the many enjoyable parts of my job is that I get to visit Scottish Land & Estates members’ businesses and projects and see innovation in action. Today I was blown away by the IndiNature facility near Jedburgh. The potential of hemp for both growers and for those looking to improve the energy efficiency of rural houses using a natural product is huge, so I’m delighted that SLE is able to play a small part in supporting the growth of IndiNature as well as championing the company’s progressive approach. Thanks to Graeme Purves for the tour of the impressive production facility and to Joe Farren & Alex McLeod for the policy, regulation and market potential chat.
