📣 Call for Evidence: Project OSCAR on Work-Related Stress We are excited to announce that our call for evidence on Project OSCAR is now open! We need your research evidence and expertise to help answer the Health and Safety Executive's three priority questions on work-related stress: -What primary and secondary control measures or interventions show efficacy for preventing and mitigating work-related stress? -How is work-related stress assigned and labelled? -What are the enablers and barriers to organisations effectively controlling work-related stress risk? Project OSCAR (Occupational Stress Consultation and Research) is a collaborative effort by @Affinity Health at Work, the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM), and the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), funded by the The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE). A landmark report based on IES's research on behalf of Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and British Veterinary Chronic Illness Support (BVCIS) has just been published. This research aimed to gain a better understanding of the experiences of those with a disability or chronic condition who are working or studying in the veterinary sector. IES recently evaluated a programme managed by The Careers & Enterprise Company to help disadvantaged young people secure sustained places in education or training when they leave school. Key findings include: 94% entered a post-16 destination and 93% sustained their education and training. The evaluation collected pupil survey data over three waves (baseline, before they started on the projects, midline, and endline, after they had moved into their post-16 destination). The data provided indicators as to why young people sustained their destinations. Over 900 of the 1,000+ cohort were still engaged at the end of the programme. Overall, the evaluation shows the programme has been effective in supporting young people into sustained and good quality post-16 destinations. Read the reports: https://bit.ly/3WmOVLv

Our labour market stats briefing note is now available. All told, there are now half a million more people out of work than there were this time last year, driven in particular by more people outside of the labour force entirely. This month’s briefing looks in more detail at the make-up of this group, and shows that four fifths of the growth over the last year is explained by more men out of work, particularly due to long-term ill health and non-working students, and especially men aged under 50. That being said, women continue to be far more likely than men to be out of work (around a quarter of all women aged under 65 compared with one fifth of men) so recent trends have narrowed rather than eliminated these gaps. Looking ahead, the government is right to have prioritised economic growth in its first few weeks and to be looking to ‘take the brakes off Britain’. There are few areas where this applies more than in the labour market: if we are to get back to sustained growth then we need to help more people to get back into work.  Read the report: https://bit.ly/46rvFkZ #labourmarket #research
