🔬✍️ We've joined a coalition of top UK scientists and research leaders, including Professor Brian Cox and Dr Sir Tim Hunt, to voice serious concerns about potential cuts to the #ScienceBudget. In a letter to The Times, we've warned that slashing R&D investment would halt progress, costing jobs and expertise especially when the UK needs innovation for growth. The call is clear: invest in science now to secure the future of our economy. Let’s ensure R&D remains a priority. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/e9Am8WG7

It's Open Access Week! 🔍 A recent study by IOP Publishing reveals varied adoption and key barriers in open data sharing across physical science research communities. While open data is crucial for advancing science, only 1 in 10 researchers share data following FAIR principles. 🌍🔬 From legal constraints in environmental science to data format concerns in physics, the challenges are diverse. It's time to think about how we share our research to foster transparency and collaboration. Read more here, including their newly published white paper, and explore how we can improve data sharing practices: https://lnkd.in/eCnJxxYS
🌍✨ Happy Open Access Week 2024! ✨🌍 Did you know, only 1 in 10 researchers in the physical sciences share FAIR data? In celebration of #OAWeek 2024, we present our whitepaper which explores the barriers that researchers face when sharing open data alongside published articles. We join Campaign for Science and Engineering in calling Rt Hon Rachel Reeves to use the #AutumnBudget and #SpendingReview to commit to continued investment in R&D and signal, at home and abroad, that the UK is serious about R&D’s role in contributing to sustained economic growth and boosting productivity. Our own submission to HM Treasury called for increased R&D investment to match or exceed top OECD countries, to boost economic growth, productivity and job creation across all parts of the UK. We also urged Government to: ➡️ Ensure our university physics departments are world-leading + sustainable ➡️ Maintain and strengthen UK’s international presence + partnerships ➡️ Enhance investment in R&I infrastructure ➡️ Build a strong pipeline for the provision of physics education + skills Read our full submission here: https://lnkd.in/exBtBDca
We’ve written a letter to Chancellor Rachel Reeves urging her to use the Budget on 30 October to protect funding for R&D. We recognise that there are difficult decisions to be made with the public finances, but it is vital that our long-term ability to grow the economy isn’t undermined by the false economy of short-term cuts. Cuts to investment in R&D now would damage the sector right when it is needed to make a vital contribution to boosting economic growth and productivity.” Thank you to all the organisations who signed up to the letter. This is an issue that matter to us all and we hope that the Chancellor will take on board our recommendation. Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/e8_vmuKX
