📢 This week marked the publication of 'The UK as a Climate Finance Hub: Unlocking capital from institutional investors towards Emerging Market and Developing Economies (EMDEs)'. 🤝 We synthesised the outputs of workstreams led by Aviva Investors, Mercer and The Private Infrastructure Development Group, to produce this final report which underscores the need for collaboration between the UK government, institutional investors and other stakeholders to overcome barriers and strengthen capital flows towards EMDEs. ✒️ The report focuses on actions that the government, investors and other relevant stakeholders can take in the next 5-10 years for private investors to mobilise capital at scale. "Investing in other countries to accelerate the transition to clean energy is critical – to growing our economy at home, and to building financial stability long-term, in the UK, and right around the world,” said Anneliese Dodds, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Minister for Development. 👉 The creation and publication of this report follows the UK FCDO’s call for industry to convene and identify the barriers and opportunities to greater capital mobilisation from institutional investors to EMDEs. 💡Thanks to Catherine Clark, Tom Tayler, Steve Waygood, Jonathan Cross, Tessa Page, Valahu Philippe and Tim Streeter for contributions. 📣More than 200 financial sector actors have signed a joint statement urging the European Commission to preserve the integrity and ambition of the EU sustainable finance framework. Investors warn that the proposed EU Omnibus package to amend key sustainable finance regulations could create legal uncertainty, jeopardise long-term competitiveness and harm investment if rules are reopened. 💡The statement supports the objective of simplification but argues that improved technical standards and clear implementation guidance would better help to close the investment gap. Signatories include more than 160 asset owners and asset managers with a combined €6.6 trillion in assets under management. 🌍Stephanie Pfeifer, IIGCC CEO said: “By maintaining the core principles of these regulations while addressing implementation challenges, the EU can reinforce its global leadership in sustainable finance." 📍 Emily Murrell, IIGCC Policy Programme Director, welcomed the UK's Nationally Determined Contribution submission, published yesterday: "Following the UK’s COP29 announcement that they intend to cut economy-wide emissions by 81% by 2035, this latest update offers a more comprehensive decarbonisation strategy across key sectors and an overview of the policies and measures involved in its delivery. “It is positive to see these commitments respond directly to the outcomes of the UN Global Stocktake, with an explicit commitment to issuing no new oil and gas licenses. Looking ahead, we encourage more detail on the delivery of targets related to the UK Carbon Budget Delivery Plan. Underpinning these high-level commitments with clear sectoral plans will help to give investors certainty about the long-term investment landscape. “Finance is integral to achieving UK’s ambitions and investors are ready to play their part to ensure the country benefits from the opportunities presented by the green transition. "We hope this announcement serves as a catalyst for other countries to follow suit, providing clarity on emissions reduction plans and building momentum on the road to COP30.” Emily Murrell FRSA Our response ➡ https://lnkd.in/ePX3kwAA #COP29 #COP30 #NDCs #UKClimateLeadership #UNFCCC

🌟We're thrilled to have had a full house at our IIGCC policy roundtable in Brussels yesterday, with opening remarks from Diana Acconcia DG CLIMA, our CEO, Stephanie Pfeifer OBE and IIGCC Board Vice-Chair and PKA CEO, Jon Johnsen. 🗝️The session, chaired by our Policy Director Emily Murrell FRSA, explored the practical ways we can unlock finance for the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal and meet the EU’s 2040 climate target amid an increasingly complex regional and global landscape. The discussion between representatives from across EU institutions, think-tanks and investors covered: 🏭 How to encourage a vibrant entrepreneurial European economy amid the complexities of the Clean Industrial Deal, decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness as joint priorities. 💡The role of critical raw materials, technological innovation, and access to finance for the transition – and the investment gaps around transport, buildings, energy, and adaptation. 📄How to simplify regulation and make reporting requirements manageable, while maintaining climate ambition. 🌍The EU's position as a climate leader and its role on the global stage, fresh from Ursula von der Leyen's commitment to the green transition at Davos. 🙌Thanks to all for their informative contributions to the discussion. #Policy #SustainableInvestment #EuropeanCommission #EuropeanParliament
