Exciting progress was made last week, with operational trials being held for passenger rail freight. A big thank you to the teams at Reading and CrossCountry Trains. It’s amazing to see the impact operators like Cross Country can have on the communities they serve by taking vehicles off the roads and playing an important role in driving towards a greener and faster logistics future. 🚆🌿 #ExpressFreight #ParcelsAsPassengers #SameDayLogistics #RailFreight

Despite the significant challenges Eurostar passengers faced due to the disruptions at St Pancras (STP) following the arson attacks on the French rail network before the Olympic Games, we were still able to keep passenger freight services moving. A huge thank you to the Network Rail High Speed (NRHS) team at STP for their exceptional management of the situation. #EveryoneHomeSafeEveryDay Photo Credit: Lucy North/PA News Agency

We absolutely agree with Cllr Liz Leffman's insights on the crucial role of transport decarbonisation. At ICRF, we are 100% committed to this mission, enabling train operators to shift road freight to passenger rail services, thereby supporting sustainable economic growth and improved social outcomes. Investment in rail and public transport is essential for facilitating modal shift, achieving greater efficiencies, cost savings, and emission reductions. Our approach at ICRF demonstrates how existing resources and capacity can be maximised to meet these objectives, driving supply chain innovation and enhancing customer service while reducing environmental impact.

"Creating better places” Cllr Liz Leffman, Chair England's Economic Heartland at the East of England Local Government Association Net Zero and Climate Resilience summit on crucial role transport decarbonisation has not just in reducing emissions, but providing better health, economic & social outcomes. Reflecting on the event Cllr Leffman said: ‘I was delighted to speak at today’s conference, which demonstrated the strong commitment amongst both public and private sectors to reduce emissions and achieve net zero. Given the economic opportunity that net zero presents, it is fitting that the Opportunity East report was launched at the conference. Our economic potential, powered by world class innovation in science and technology, offers a huge opportunity for the government to support sustainable economic growth, but this can only be achieved if we see commitment to priority investment in rail and public transport schemes, including delivery in full of schemes such as East West Rail, Ely Junction and the HERT mass rapid transit.’

We are delighted with the announcement of the appointment of Lord Peter Hendy as the new Transport Minister. Lord Hendy’s extensive experience not only in rail but across the transport sector is a promising sign that Labour’s transport manifesto is not just a vision but a plan in action. Here at ICRF, we have always championed the independence and growth of the rail freight sector and we look forward to Labour's policy of keeping the rail freight industry in the private sector become a reality. Lord Hendy’s appointment aligns perfectly with our goal and the sector's mission to drive innovation and efficiency within our industry and to deliver upon the vision of the Bradshaw address to increase rail freight by 75% by 2050. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to advocate for policies that support our sector’s expansion. #RailFreight #ExpressFreight #ParcelsAsPassengers

Today, we're celebrating #NationalLogisticsDay, a day dedicated to recognising the vital role logistics plays in our daily lives and global economy. From the food on our tables to the technology in our hands, logistics is the backbone that keeps everything moving smoothly. At ICRF, we are especially proud to contribute to this critical industry focusing on our role in the important modal shift. We are often asked “are you logisticians or are you rail?” The answer is both because the two are not just linked, for the future of transport rail is the hand inside the logistics glove. Join us in celebrating the incredible advancements in logistics and the hardworking professionals who make it all possible! Their dedication ensures that businesses run efficiently, and consumers receive their goods on time, every time. #Logistics #FreightIsGreat #ParcelsAsPassengers

This week, for #BetterTransportWeek, our team at ICRF embraced the challenge of making eco-friendlier travel choices, and the results were truly inspiring! 🚆Mark chose the scenic route by boarding the The Caledonian Sleeper to Glasgow, favouring the rails over roads and cutting down carbon emissions by a remarkable 48.75 kg. What a way to combine comfort with sustainability! 🚍 Miranda turned her daily commute green by opting for the bus, achieving a commendable carbon saving of 7.1 kg. Every small step counts towards a bigger change! 🚶♀️Dom took strides (literally!) towards a greener planet by walking to work, reducing carbon emissions by 3.6 kg. It's amazing how much impact our own two feet can have on our carbon footprint. 🚆 Jeff also made a sustainable choice this week by choosing to commute via the EMR electric train service instead of a diesel one. Additionally, he embraced cycling by purchasing a fob for the EMR cycle hub at Kettering, opting to cycle to the train station rather than drive, further proving that every decision counts when it comes to protecting our environment. ✨ Meanwhile, Daniel embarked on a marathon journey that truly tested the limits of sustainable travel. His itinerary—from Nottingham to Derby, then to Leeds, King’s Cross, Waterloo, St Pancras, St Albans, and back, all within 24 hours—was nothing short of admirable. By choosing train travel exclusively, Daniel slashed our carbon emissions by a whopping 53.48 kg! His story underscores the viability and impact of making environmentally conscious choices. Daniel's experiences also highlighted the exemplary service on our railways, from staff dealing with ticketing issues to managing unexpected delays all with professionalism and care. His encounter at St Pancras, where East Midlands Railway staff efficiently handled disruptions while ensuring passenger comfort, serves as a testament to the resilience and teamwork of our rail services. Together, we've not only reduced our carbon emissions by a huge 112.93 kg this week, but also enhanced our team's health and wellbeing, all while setting a positive example in our community. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for sustainable transport! 🌍🌿 #SustainableTravel #GreenLogistics #ICRF

Today, as we remember the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we reflect not only on the bravery and sacrifices made but also on the remarkable logistics that supported one of history's largest amphibious military assaults. The precision and coordination of transporting troops, equipment, and supplies under immense pressure were crucial to the operation's success. The efficient use of the railway system was a testament to the strategic importance of rail transport, significantly contributing to the success of the Allied operations on the Western Front. #DDay80Anniversary #DDay80
