Another Inclusion Moment asking for companies to get out of their own way when it comes to progression. How many of us have faced barriers like this that are self-imposed by organisations?

Connecting, informing and empowering LGBTQ+ Engineers and supporters
About us
At InterEngineering, we connect, inform and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer + (LGBTQ+) engineers and supporters. We invite engineers of all backgrounds as well as those working in engineering to join us in helping improve diversity and inclusion across the sector. We achieve this by: Connecting Providing networking opportunities for LGBT engineers in different companies to meet, discuss improvements the profession could be making and share best practice for growing company support. Informing Sharing and collecting experiences and resources of LGBT people working in engineering and promoting wider initiatives within the industry to help promote diversity and inclusion. Empowering Running events to help LGBT engineers create their own company networks to promote and support diversity in their workplaces, and providing a forum for smaller enterprises.

We’re very excited to announce our brilliant keynote speaker and panellists for tomorrow’s Accelerate Action Roundtable at Arup, 80 Charlotte Street! 🎉🙌 The evening will start off with a keynote speech by the fantastic Susan Robson MBE. Susan is the Interim CEO of the Women's Engineering Society, following a rich career in engineering, where she spent 17 years at National Grid. Following our keynote speaker, we have a brilliant panel of individuals who each bring a unique perspective on how we can accelerate action for gender equality in Engineering Industries. 🌟 Jennifer MacDonald, Director of Engineering Inclusion Ltd and Interim Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Royal Academy of Engineering. As a chemical engineer turned diversity professional, Jennifer brings a wealth of experience enabling engineers to pivot their careers with clarity and supporting engineering industries to create an inclusive workforce. 🌟 Patrick Murray Whitham, Programme Manager at EqualEngineers and Co-chair at InterEngineering. Patrick’s experience as a professionally accredited engineer, successful Senior and Chartered Manager, and accomplished DEI Specialist provides an essential perspective on how to action change through various events, programmes and initiatives. 🌟 Laura Caicedo, Manager Solutions Architecture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Community Co-Founder of AWS Cloud Women - UK. Laura brings an enlightening perspective on the value of community spaces within our organisations and how this can build a safe space for women and under-represented groups to share knowledge, acquire new skills, network and seek support. 🌟 Kerry O'Loughlin, Culture, Equity & Inclusion Lead, UKIMEA at Arup. With a DEI career spanning over 10 years, Kerry brings valuable insights into the invaluable role of DEI practices and initiatives in both government and industry. Our breakout sessions will give you a chance to dive into the conversation yourself, while you network with and learn from our panellists and your fellow attendees! Refreshments will be available and the evening will end with some open networking, allowing you to continue to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. Ticket sales close at 10am tomorrow, so don’t miss your chance to join us! https://lnkd.in/eB2AAxp5

Today's Inclusion Moment is about the habit of speaking around rather than to people in marginalised communities. This is something that happens not just to the LGBTQIA+ community, but to women, disabled people, people of colour, and anyone else from a marginalised background. When has this happened to you?

One of our Co-Chairs, Patrick, posted a story on LinkedIn last week that gained a lot of attention, as have some follow up posts that have been made. Patrick and Fiona have therefore decided to post more of these 5-minute 'Inclusion Moments' to connect to the InterEngineering membership, inform people about common things that can and do happen, and empower everyone to make a difference, however small.

🌈 My Pride Story in Engineering: Chapter 2 – Grounded in Pride 🌍 At InterEngineering, we believe that sharing personal stories is a powerful way to drive change in the engineering profession. By amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices, we not only foster inclusion but also challenge outdated norms and highlight the diverse experiences within our industry. As LGBT+ History Month comes to an end, we publish the second chapter of "My Pride Story in Engineering", featuring the story of our Co-Chair, Fiona Connor. Fiona's story explores themes of going from isolation to visibility, finding strength through community, and why being visible matters. 💡 Want to share your story? We want to hear from you! If you're an LGBTQIA+ engineer with a story to tell, send us your submission (preferably in Word format) at InterEngineering@EqualEngineers.com. Let’s continue building a profession where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported. 🏳️🌈🏗️ https://lnkd.in/eEFPCtRH #InterEngineering #MyPrideStory #LGBTQIAinEngineering #DiversityInSTEM #InclusionMatters
