Wishing you a very happy World Teacher's Day this October 5th! Recently, we had a conversation with some of our members about their plans for World Teacher's Day, and one of the most heartwarming ideas came up—one of our members is planning to visit a former teacher who played a significant role in their life, offering inspiration and support throughout their journey. If you don’t have the chance to reconnect with a favourite teacher, or if your school experience wasn’t quite as positive, why not take a moment to read this quote from President Obama’s 2009 address to America’s schoolchildren? It may just bring back memories of the past year’s homeschooling challenges and a re-found appreciation for teachers: "When I was young [...], I lived in Indonesia for a few years. And my mother, she didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school, but she thought it was important for me to keep up with an American education. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday. But because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning. Now, as you might imagine, I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. [...] But whenever I’d complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and she’d say, 'This is no picnic for me either, buster.'" International Education Funders Group (IEFG)
Non-profit Organizations
A peer-led affinity network of foundations and grantmakers that support basic education in the Global South.
About us
The International Education Funders Group (IEFG) is an affinity network of foundations and donor-advised funds that work towards better education outcomes with a special focus on low and middle-income countries. Our interests cover early childhood through to tertiary education, as well as non-formal education, youth and skills, and adult education. Much of our work aims to support the education targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals and Education 2030. We are a peer-led, member-driven group, focused primarily on co-learning, information exchange and networking, trying to collectively strengthen our members’ work and knowledge of the field. The IEFG's purpose is to help private funders have a stronger voice and impact in education by improving their strategic analyses and thinking, informing and assisting their grantmaking, and providing opportunities for collective learning and action. Our small Secretariat (based across different time zones) works closely with a steering committee made up of IEFG members who volunteer their time and expertise to guide our programmes and initiatives.
