Our work from the last three years, the first generic cyclist models for aerodynamic research, is published! The cyclist models and results are freely available for everyone. I believe that by sharing data and using these common models, we will further advance our knowledge about cycling aerodynamics. Join us for the next edition of our online lecture series on Sports Engineering, kazuya Seo from Kogakuin University will present the concept of designing the equipment on the basis of sparse modelling. Athletes' performance depends on both the athlete and the equipment, and both must work in harmony. Generally, there are many design variables during the design stage. It is also difficult to estimate the index of performances multiple times due to time and budget constraints. This brings us to sparse modelling. The number of estimations of the index of performance is few, but design variables are many. Sparse modelling is a technique in machine learning that aims to represent data using a minimal set of features, emphasising simplicity and interpretability.

In this edition of our online lecture series on Sports Engineering, Prof. Ada Ferri (Politecnico di Torino) provides insights into designing the perfect sportswear by using the pyramid of comfort. The concept of the pyramid of comfort has been a long-standing approach in the design and evaluation of comfortable clothing. In the presented speech, the focus is on elucidating the various levels of textile testing and exploring the intricate interactions between clothing and human physiology. This exploration seeks to gain a deep understanding of the performance of clothing, with the goal of uncovering the dynamics that contribute to an optimal relationship between the athlete and the clothing.
