Yesterday evening the Invest Plymouth team were delighted to attend a special event at the National Marine Aquarium to learn more about the important relationship between economic growth and environmental stewardship. The evening kicked off with a presentation by Rachel Thomson of SWIG Finance giving information to SME's regarding their amazing start-up loans of anything between £500 to £25,000 for businesses trading for less than 3 years To date, they have provided £43m in start-up loans which has enabled over 3,800 entrepreneurs to pursue their ambitions! Great to hear more from Matt Whale of Bamboo-Growth Ltd about proposals for a new business support programme (watch this space!) and finishing off with Ian McFadzen, CEO of the Ocean Conservation Trust with some impressive facts including that of Seagrass, which is a flowering plants that lives in shallow sheltered areas along our coasts. Not only does seagrass provide homes for many animals, but they have bright green leaves and vast root structures which is a great way of capturing carbon! Great start to the week when Sandy Gianni-Coyle met up for a chat with Darioosh Naderi, Global Strategy & Marketing Lead at Silicon Sensing Systems Ltd as part of our business relationship programme here at Invest Plymouth. In 2024 Silicon Sensing celebrated their 25th anniversary of the joint venture with SUMITOMO PRECISION PRODUCTS Co., Ltd. and Collins Aerospace and over the last 25 years, they have seen a consistent rise in demand for their rugged, high performance inertial sensing technologies. The company has supplied inertial sensors and systems to a range of notable projects, from the innovative Segway personal transport device to the pioneering Mayflower Autonomous Ship which crossed the Atlantic Ocean without human intervention in June 2022. Their leading cutting-edge innovation, research, and development has enabled them to solve inertial challenges in any environment and in sectors spanning Space, Defence, Marine, Automotive and a host of others. 📣Altilium reaches 50 employee milestone as company secures further international investment for growth🎉 Devon-based clean technology company Altilium is proud to announce that it has grown to over 50 employees as it continues to expand its EV battery recycling operations, creating new green jobs and attracting international investment to the region. The latest expansion follows significant inward investment in the company in the first quarter of 2025, including a $2.5m investment from leading global bank Mizuho Bank and a $5m strategic investment from leading Japanese trading and investment group Marubeni Corporation. Altilium’s continued growth underlines its commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy and establishing Devon as a hub for clean technology innovation. The company’s recent recruitment drive has seen specialists in chemical and mechanical engineering from across the UK join the team, as well as the appointment of David Cartwright in the new role of Managing Director. Further roles expected to be created in the coming months.
