700 people have signed a letter to The Times calling on the UK Government to improve creative education, including our CEO, Caroline Norbury, OBE The arts have the power to enrich the lives of millions of young people across the UK and it's time for the UK Government to ensure the Curriculum and Assessment review puts the arts back where they belong - at the heart of our schools. 🌟 Highlighting Female Founders in the Creative Industries 🌟 Looking back to the #BIGSUMMIT25 - one of our key panels put the spotlight firmly on female founders, particularly in the creative industries. A special highlight was the inspirational talk by Dr. Vivienne Heyhoe who shared her incredible journey as both a female founder and investor. Her message was clear and powerful: life is short—focus on what you’re passionate about, shout from the rooftops, and build a community around you. Most importantly, lean on your community, and lift others up along the way. We believe it’s time to give our brightest female founders from our Create Growth Programme, a platform to shine. 🌿 At our #BIGSUMMIT25 we were proud to host a lively panel discussion at the newly launched Fab Lab South West, focused on ‘Peninsular Circular Economies in Design and Manufacture'. Industry leaders, including Yasmin Jones-Henry, Ben Mundy, John Mathers British Design Fund, David Kirkland, and Associate Professor Stephanie Owens Arts University Plymouth came together to share their valuable insights on all-things sustainable design. From our unique geography influences, to sustainable design and the vital role of innovative resourcing, the conversation highlighted the importance of lo-fi systems as drivers of the circular economy within our communities, the need for upstream design solutions, and the power of cross-sector collaboration. As part of our #BIGSUMMIT25, we were thrilled to announce the renaming of Fab Lab South West — a vibrant creative hub dedicated to fabrication, innovation, and collaboration. With discussions around sustainability and the circular economy taking centre stage throughout the summit, it was the perfect moment to unveil this incredible facility. Professor Stephen Felmingham, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Arts University Plymouth, highlighted the amazing opportunities at Fab Lab South West (part of Arts University Plymouth) for inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, and hobbyists alike. This space is equipped with cutting-edge tools and resources alongside a community of like-minded creators, all eager to transform ideas into reality. From 3D printing and scanning to electronics and digital fabrication, Fab Lab South West has everything designers and creatives need to turn creative projects into tangible outcomes, enhancing the South West region’s design and manufacturing capabilities.
