🌟ISAC's free resources🌟 At the end of World AMR Awareness Week, we take this opportunity to thank our Member Societies, colleagues and every organisation who hosted such informative events and shared their resources to really turn the spotlight on AMR and its global consequences. The variety of events and high-level of involvement from stakeholders, including the public, was impressive and testament that the issue is getting the recognition that is needed. Of course, there is much work to be done but with so many organisations focussed on combatting AMR, we are sure the momentum will continue. To evidence ISAC and APUA's commitment to the issue, we are pleased to share a round-up of our recent activities, all of which are freely available. ISAC is a federation of member societies aimed at combating antibiotic resistance around the world.
About us
The International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) aims to advance the education and the science of therapy of infection through the establishment of an international federation of affiliated national and regional societies with similar aims and objectives to its own. ISAC currently has a worldwide membership composed of 95 national and regional societies, which in turn have over 50,000 individual members. ISAC promotes the conduct of scientific research, convening international congresses, conferences and symposia and encourages co-operation within the society and between scientists belonging to other societies dealing with related basic and clinical sciences. In the last decade, most of the Society's work has been on antimicrobials. ISAC currently has 22 Working Groups and actively encourages and/or sponsors the formation of international working groups for special research, training projects or the use of therapeutics in the field of anti-infective and anti-neoplastic therapy and coordinating their activities. The Working Groups contribute significantly to the ISAC Disease Management Series of meetings. In addition, the ISAC awards scholarships and bursaries to enable attendance at and travel to its international biennial congresses. The Society’s official journals are the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (IJAA) and the Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance (JGAR). ISAC hosts the International Congress of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ICC) worldwide every second year. 🌟Happening today🌟 Emerging and re-emerging infections among migrants 📆18 March 🕰14.00 CET Forced mass population movement exposes refugees to many hazards including the harm of life-threatening infections. Refugees are frequently compelled to shelter in overcrowded accommodation, putting them at risk of airborne pathogens. ISAC welcomes you to join a webinar that focuses on respiratory infectious diseases in refugees, providing insight into the epidemiology, prevention, and management of important pathogens. Dr Androulla Efstratiou, Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Diphtheria & Streptococcal Infections, UK Health Security Agency, will talk about diphtheria and other vaccine preventable diseases, while Dr Aula Abbara, a consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, London, who has worked in many humanitarian and refugee settings in the Middle East, will review drug resistant tuberculosis among refugees and migrants. This is a highly recommended opportunity to listen to and ask questions of two leading experts in this important clinical area and we look forward to you joining us for the session.
