The professional body for professional technicians and technologists across all sectors.
About us
We believe technicians are key to an organisations success. We help science, engineering, creative and digital/AI technicians to enable the best version of themselves through offering professional networks, at our events and Conference, as well as career development opportunities and access to professional registration and CPD. We are a broad church body with members from industry, HE, research institutes both in the UK and overseas. We are the IST; and we aim to be recognised as the leading professional body for the technical community. Established in 1948 and known originally as the Science Technologists Association. We embody and are proud of our history, but with the modern technology-driven world opening up many new and exciting fields, our main aim is to ensure that the IST strives to represent the many technologies and no longer just the sciences. Our Strategic Framework identifies groups of technical professionals that we support and work closely with, across many disciplines (Creative Industry, Engineering, Science and Technology), as well as defining strategic ambitions and objectives to support each group. Our aim is to make the Institute all-embracing and, in order to achieve this, help / advise on networks and specialist forums, in addition to providing training, recognised qualifications, continuing career development opportunities, resources and guidance.

What is an LLM, and how do you evaluate one? LLM stands for Large Language Model - a type of AI trained on massive amounts of text data to understand and generate human-like language. It can write essays, code, answer questions, and even hold conversations. But not all LLMs are created equal. When evaluating an LLM, one of the most important factors is alignment - how well the model’s outputs match human intent, accuracy, and ethical considerations. A powerful model that generates incorrect or biased responses isn’t truly useful. Other key factors include: ✅ Accuracy – Does it provide correct and reliable information? ✅ Adaptability – Can it handle specific domains or tasks effectively? ✅ Efficiency – How fast and cost-effective is it? ✅ Safety & Bias Mitigation – Does it avoid harmful or misleading outputs? As LLMs continue to evolve, their real-world impact depends not just on their size but on how well they align with our needs. What do you think is the most critical factor in LLM evaluation? #AI #LLM #MachineLearning #ArtificialIntelligence
