About us
Protecting children is at the heart of everything we do. For over 25 years, since the early days of the internet, our job has been to help child victims of sexual abuse by hunting down and removing any online record of the abuse. How we do this Tech-for-good.We build cutting-edge tech tools designed to make it easier to identify and remove online images and videos of child sexual abuse. In short, tech to protect kids. Our team of human analysts. Tech companies and law enforcement worldwide trust the assessments, experience and knowledge of our extraordinary team of people. Working together. With international partners in government, law enforcement, reporting hotlines, charities and the tech community we work to stop illegal images of children being circulated again and again. We share vital information that could lead to the rescue of a child from terrible abuse. IWF Hotline. This gives people a safe and anonymous place to report suspected online images and videos. When we started in 1996, 18 per cent of child sexual abuse imagery online was hosted in the UK. Today, thanks to our Hotline, it’s less than one per cent. We’re proud of that.

Our piece about the rising problem of #Al child abuse images. In a landmark case, 27-year-old Hugh Nelson has been jailed for 18 years after creating and selling Al child abuse images from real images of children. We went to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) where dozens of analysts scour the internet every day to remove these images. They say that in the last six months they’ve seen more child abuse images made using AI then they saw in the whole of last year. With Mickey Carroll 👇

Our CTO Dan S. and one of our analysts Jeff, talk about the rise of #AI child sexual abuse material and how convincing this imagery is becoming. "Our work has always been difficult anyway. [But] we've never had to deal with the possibility that someone could download some software on their computer and create an infinite amount of new images. "They use as many as they can until the hard drives fill up. That's a new type of harm that we have not been prepared for," said our CTO Dan. Watch the full Sky News piece below.

Our Interim CEO, Derek Ray-Hill, said: “Technology is now enabling previously unthought of violations of innocent children. "We are discovering more and more synthetic and AI images of child sexual abuse and they can be disturbingly life-like. “That Nelson profited from making this material to order after clients sent him images to manipulate is on another horrifying level. "I hope this drives home the message. This material, even synthetic versions of it, is criminal. If you make or possess it, you are breaking the law." Read the full article below.

Our Interim CEO Derek Ray-Hill, said "His offences remind us this sort of abuse costs young lives. And the Child Sexual Abuse Material may linger online to haunt his victims over and over again until it is finally removed. “Over the last decade, the IWF has seen offences like this skyrocket. Offenders like McCartney can now contact children and force them into the most appalling sexual abuse – all without needing to ever be in the same room. "The internet is an open door to our children’s bedrooms through which criminals like McCartney can gain access." Read more here.
