Online grooming occurs when someone starts a relationship with a young person online with the intention of exploiting or abusing them. For many online games, children are encouraged to chat with people online, and these games as a result have been used to connect with and subsequently exploit children.

I’m incredibly proud to share this news, especially for those who may not work in this field but want to understand more about the profiles of sexual offenders and the power of teamwork. This is a clear example: a deputy from the province of Misiones, Argentina, has been identified and arrested for the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. This is a hopeful sign for the LAC region, demonstrating that when we all work together, justice can and will be applied to ALL those who harm our children. Now, we await a conviction, while we continue our fight to find the victims and provide them with the support they need and deserve. Under the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children leadership, with the support of the The Jensen Project, Clearview AI, and Child Rescue Coalition, Inc., the "Guardianes digilates por la niñez" initiative became a task force that united 10 Latin American countries (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Perú) with the mission of identifying the children behind the images of child sexual abuse that reach authorities in these countries by the hundreds every day through various channels. This collaboration also allowed us to identify some of the perpetrators. It is immensely gratifying to see how the combined efforts of NGOs, the private sector, and law enforcement have enabled us, each in our respective roles, to achieve results that fill us with pride. Thank you to all our partners for your work and for believing in ICMEC's mission. Together we are stronger! #csam #childprotection #lawenforcement #LAC #ICMEC https://lnkd.in/ghVvphxK

Webinar: Exploring the Model National Response to Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (The webinar will be conducted in English and Spanish). Three years ago, as part of a global strategy and our commitment to WeProtect Global Alliance, International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children prioritized the construction of national capacities to combat child sexual abuse and exploitation online. We recognized that collaboration and resource-sharing among organizations working to protect children are vital to achieving our common goal. Leveraging WeProtect’s Model National Response (MNR) framework, we developed our Multisectoral Response and Capacity Assessment. We firmly believe that sustainable, impactful change can only be achieved through comprehensive, coordinated protection for children at the national level. However, many countries lack the resources, expertise, or political will to establish or improve national action plans for child protection. In response, we launched a global program to identify gaps in a country’s ability to protect its children and to propose practical roadmaps to address those gaps. So far, we have conducted assessments in 11 countries: #Guatemala, #ElSalvador, #Honduras, #Colombia, #Ecuador, #TrinidadandTobago, #Romania, #Indonesia, #Moldova, #Kenya, and #Uganda. We are also finalizing three more assessments in #Nigeria, #Chile, and the state of Andhra Pradesh in #India. Our assessments aim to guide all stakeholders involved in the prevention, investigation, and care of victims in creating a coordinated plan of action for the short, medium, and long term. This approach enables us to strategically address gaps and seize opportunities for meaningful change. Join Athena Morgan, Irina Năstase, Byron Velásquez, Rizki Inderawansyah and me in our upcoming webinar, where we will present case studies from four different countries. We invite you to learn more about our work and, most importantly, to collaborate with us in developing strategies that ensure a truly strategic investment of efforts and resources in favor of children’s safety and well-being. If you're interested in learning more about the results of our MRC Assessment, visit: https://lnkd.in/etgMdRsg #childprotection #ICMEC #WeProtect #MRCAssessment #MNR #CapacityBuilding
We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming webinar hosted by WeProtect Global Alliance. Join us on Monday, 23 September to learn more about the MNR. Colleagues at the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC) will demonstrate how they have developed a multisectoral response and implemented the MNR in practice in a range of diverse country contexts, including Indonesia, Kenya, Romania and Guatemala. Training on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA sheds light on the challenges hindering reporting, such as stigma and shame. Children often avoid seeking help due to fear of being labeled as a "troubled_child". To encourage reporting and support those in need, creating safe spaces for conversations and addressing social biases are crucial steps. It's essential to emphasize that abuse can happen to anyone, debunking the misconception of weakness associated with it. Moreover, leveraging emerging technologies for virtual and anonymous counseling can provide a supportive environment for victims. By understanding what deters reporting, we can work towards breaking the barriers and ensuring victims receive the assistance they deserve. #ChildProtection #MentalHealthSupport #OnlineSafety International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children Brave Movement, ECPAT International, World Childhood Foundation
