The Barbour story began in 1894 in South Shields in the North East of England. Founder John Barbour began supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen and dockers. These first weather resistant items quickly established Barbour’s reputation for innovation and quality. Today, Barbour remains a fifth generation family business. Under the leadership of Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, Barbour has grown into a lifestyle brand sold in over 55 countries worldwide including Europe, the US and Asia offering a wardrobe of stylish functional clothing, footwear and accessories inspired by the unique values of the British countryside. The iconic Barbour Bedale and Barbour Beaufort wax jackets continue to be made by hand in the factory in South Shields. Barbour International, the collection for men and women inspired by Barbour’s motorcycle heritage established in 1936, is now a separate stand alone brand with its own identity. In 2020, Barbour launched Wax for Life, an overarching name for all of Barbour’s wax services designed to encourage customers to extend the life of their wax garments. Wax for Life includes re-waxing and repairs (first introduced in 1921) and Barbour Re-Loved an upcycling circularity initiative. Each year over 70,000 wax garments are sent back to Barbour globally to be repaired, rewaxed or altered.

Dress For The World You Want- Second Hand September 💚🧥 Last month we took part in Second Hand September, Oxfam’s campaign to promote the benefits of shopping pre-loved and encouraging everyone to buy more sustainably. Very similar values to our own. Employees donated any unwanted clothing, accessories and footwear, giving their pre-loved clothes another life, raising vital funds for Oxfam to help them support their partners and communities around the world in the fight against poverty and climate change. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and helped to make a difference to the planet! ♻️👏 #SecondHandSeptember
Icons in Quilting Exhibition 🧥🪡🚂 Last week, our HR team were invited to be part of the Icons in Quilting Exhibition in Covent Garden. Celebrating 30 years of our classic quilt designs, the exhibition featured various adaptations of our Liddlesdale jacket, designed by friends of the brand. Greeting customers, championing the brand, and meeting some furry friends too, our HR team enjoyed a slight change to their usual day 🐶☕ The jackets will be auctioned off with funds going to The Royal Countryside Fund. Founded by HM King Charles III in 2010 whilst he was The Prince of Wales, The Royal Countryside Fund is the only UK-wide charity focused on the unique issues facing farming and rural communities. Bidding will take place between 8th and 19th November and will be hosted online by Bonhams. https://t.ly/1l_GA

⭐ Factory Fridays ⭐ Meet Chelsea, Alex, Anthony and Ben, this year’s seasonal Factory Customer Service Assistants. Vital during our Re-wax and Repairs departments busiest periods, our customer service temps assist in the restoration of customers jackets. As we enter the winter months, more of our customers send in their jackets to make sure they’re ready for the cold weather. Our Customer Services team work their magic on each individual jacket ensuring they uphold their iconic look. Re-waxing and repairs are important in extending the life of a jacket, an effective way to reduce its impact per wear and the need for new resources. Your hard work is appreciated by us and our customers, keep up the amazing standards! Discover more https://shorturl.at/OhMre
⭐Warehouse Wednesday ⭐ As we continue to spotlight achievements, we are shining a light on this month’s participants Alix and Radka from our Goods In Team. During the run up to our peak trade, they controlled an intake of 250,000 units per week! Alix and Radka have been responsible for the day-to-day planning and setting time slots for each delivery that we received, making sure enough time is given for the unloading of each vehicle. This is key in the run up to our busiest time of year. A massive well done to you both for your continued hard work!

Today is World Mental Health Day and this year’s theme is prioritising your mental health in and out of the workplace. Our amazing team here at Barbour shared with us different ways they take care of their mental health, through walking the dog, enjoying a cup of tea, watching the football, playing a board game, and baking! Focusing on the theme of “It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace” our team organised a mindfulness walk in order to de-stress and re-energise for an afternoon of productive work. Just 30 minutes of walking a day can boost your mood and improve your health. We’d like to say a huge thank you to our employees for helping to reduce the stigma around mental health and continuing to keep the conversation going. 🧠💚
