This week, we marked 10 years of our New York office at a packed event right in the heart of Manhattan. From our teams who live and work across North America to our infrastructure assets that moves people by rail and road, provides essential services, and supports businesses and communities, we take our responsibility to delivering infrastructure very seriously. It's been an extraordinary journey in North America brimming with triumphs and pride in what we have achieved in just a decade. Echoed in the speeches of Anthony Phillips David Wylie andrew truscott were the remarkable colleagues, clients, and opportunities that have enriched these 10 years of the New York office. Together, we not only reflected on our past achievements but looked forward with enormous ambitions to continue investing in public infrastructure that benefits all. To everyone who joined us - whether in person or in spirit - thank you for your unwavering support and partnership in making infrastructure happen across North America.

John Laing has made a landmark investment in the world’s first large-scale green hydrogen steel plant in Boden, Northern Sweden. The PPP-like investment involves the development of a greenfield water treatment plant (WTP) integral to the operations of the pioneering Stegra green steel plant. The WTP is critical ancillary infrastructure providing purified water and services essential to operate the wider hydrogen plant. The steel industry is one of the most polluting sectors, responsible for between 7-9% of the world’s carbon emissions. This plant will produce steel with up to 95% lower CO₂ emissions than coal blasted steel, by using green hydrogen produced by electrolysis and powered by renewable energy. This investment builds upon John Laing’s extensive greenfield finance experience and is an exciting entry point for John Laing into the hydrogen enabled steel sector that is paramount to a greener future. Huge thanks to our specialist team who led the structuring of this project Luke Gorton, Yangshi Yu, Steven Knapman, Marie-Eve Nault-Cloutier, Martijn Lunneker, Dhilee Rajeswaran, CFA. We look forward to working closely with Stegra and our partner Aquatech to deliver this exciting project. To learn more about our game changing investment please get in touch with us. Celebrating a big milestone on the A16 Rotterdam with the construction phase now almost complete. Yesterday contract manager Stefan Van der Voorn on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, presented the Availability Certificate to project directors Hein Versteegen and Martijn Lunneker of consortium De Groene Boog. The Availability Certificate was obtained through great collaboration between De Groene Boog and Rijkswaterstaat and demonstrates that the A16 Rotterdam meets the requirements of the DBFM. The progress on this project has been remarkable and from here we mark the beginning of a new phase - the preparation for the opening and our long-term maintenance of the 11km motorway with tunnel. With still more to do on this impressive road and tunnel build – aiming to be the world’s first energy neutral road with a tunnel - our work is far from over. Together we continue this journey towards the opening of the A16 Rotterdam in 2025. Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, John Laing and partners Dura Vermeer, Mobilis TBI, Croonwolter&dros, BESIX NL, Van Oord, Rebel, Epicofund are jointly responsible for the design, construction, financing and 20-year maintenance of the A16 Rotterdam motorway. More information on the A16 can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dhdwFqMr #A16Rotterdam #energyneutral

Great to see the progress on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel with another one of the five stations finished upon construction completion of Anzac Station https://lnkd.in/dpwK3GxY. The Metro Tunnel is one of the largest #transportinfrastructure projects undertaken in Australia. Taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through two 9KM tunnels under the city and five new stations connecting Melbourne’s growing population, it will be a transformational enhancement of the city’s rail network. Congratulations to the team at North East Link as they celebrate the start of tunnelling with tunnel boring machines (TBMs) Zelda and Gillian. TBM Zelda is the first of two massive machines that will dig the 6.5km twin tunnels. TBM Gillian is set to launch in the coming weeks. They will dig approximately 10 metres per day, with the tunnels to be built up to 45 metres underground and approximately 44,000 pre-cast concrete segments made in regional Victoria to line the tunnel walls. The construction of the North East Link tunnels will be delivered entirely by renewable electricity. John Laing is proud to be part of the Spark consortium delivering this important project for Victoria.

Breaking news! 🗞️ Our first tunnel boring machine helping dig the North East Link tunnels has started its 6.5km journey to Bulleen! In keeping with tradition the 2 massive TBMs were named before tunnelling. Their names are Zelda and Gillian after two groundbreaking local women in Melbourne's north east. TBM Zelda and TBM Gillian will dig approximately 10 metres per day and install tunnel walls made of approximately 44,000 individual concrete segments made locally in Benalla. Once complete the North East Link twin tunnels will take 15,000 trucks off local roads and save drivers up to 35 minutes. Learn more https://bit.ly/4cv9Him

We are pleased to welcome on board David Beaton, Director, John Laing, as a Australia Council Member. We caught up with David recently to ask him a few questions… IPFA - If you could personally change or influence one thing within infrastructure and/or energy, what would it be? David - Australia is in the middle of an energy transition and a huge amount of investment is required to develop new generation & transmission projects in Australia. In a period where governments are more budget constrained, I would like to see how the private sector could help fund these required works and I think this can be achieved through more innovative finance solutions and encouraging a more a more cohesive and stable energy policy throughout Australia. Congratulations to Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on winning the “Community Impact of the Year” award at the ARTBA P3 Conference. The award recognises a project that provides economic, philanthropic, or humanitarian benefit to the public and an improved quality of life for the community and/or users of the asset. The I-75 Modernisation project in Oakland County, Michigan, US, is part of the state’s first High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. The project deploys innovations that enhances safety, reduces cost and delivered the 5.5 miles of urban freeway on an expedited five-year schedule. The new roadway and bridges add capacity and improve traffic flow and safety, while improved stormwater drainage will enhance resiliency and protect adjacent communities from extreme weather events. Six new pedestrian bridges and sidewalks provide safe access, connecting communities and businesses, and aesthetically pleasing noise walls, retaining walls and bridges make the built environment more appealing. John Laing leads the Oakland Corridor Partners consortium for the public-private partnership (#P3) project, responsible for the modernisation of the 18-mile stretch of the I-75 and accelerating important upgrades by up to 12 years.
