Our CEO, Erica Marks and the #ActOnIICSA steering group were at the Houses of Parliament last night to speak to MPs 👇
A huge thank you to Sarah Champion MP for hosting and for a great panel discussion about #IICSA and the reforms which are pledged to happen and urgently needed. My attending colleagues from #ActOnIICSA included The Survivors Trust, Fay Maxted, Lucy Duckworth, Christine (Chris) Tuck (one of the panellists), Mags Godderidge, and Daisy Anderson. Grateful thanks also to the other panellists John O'Brien CBE, David Greenwood, Dr Baroness Helen Newlove LLD (hc) DCL, and Jane Seynior, all of whom brought different and valuable perspectives to the MPs, members of the House of Lords, survivors, and providers in the room. Special mention to BBC News, ITV, The Guardian, and The Observer who sent journalists to discuss and record the issues with us after. We are reliant on cross-party and cross-media co-operation to put safeguarding measures in place to protect our children, and help survivors heal. Most child sexual abuse happens behind closed doors, by someone known to the child, and often in their family, so creating a system and processes to support the #IICSA recommendations made by Professor Alexis Jay and her team is our urgent goal.

Proud and grateful to showcase our second podcast for JSAS Jewish Sexual Abuse Support with Mark Adlestone, Chair of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester and Region. Mark is a supporter of causes which are lesser known, and as our Ambassador, it was great to talk to him about why he supports the charity, and why the community needs to support as well. 5_LQhttps://lnkd.in/eSkZU69d

Progress on the #IICSA report recommendations appear closer after the Home Secretary's announcement in the House of Commons yesterday 👇
https://lnkd.in/eQFSUCdv The Survivors Trust and the #ActOnIICSA Steering group members, of which I am proud to be one (on behalf of JSAS Jewish Sexual Abuse Support) have released the following statement: Press Statement – 16th January 2025 Home Secretary’s Announcement FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT on IICSA warmly welcomes the statement made by the Home Secretary today, highlighting the government’s pledge to implement the 20 recommendations from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse’s (IICSA) final report. This commitment marks a pivotal step in addressing the systemic issues surrounding child sexual abuse. It ensures that survivors’ voices lead the way in creating change. We are immensely grateful for the dedication of our supporters since the publication of the IICSA final report in 2022. This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts. Tonight represents a major milestone for the 7,500 victims who shared their testimonies and the more than 200 dedicated staff who worked tirelessly at IICSA. We recognise that this moment brings mixed emotions, especially following two particularly difficult weeks for everyone involved. We emphasise again that the devastating and serious crime of child sexual abuse must never be politicised or weaponised for any purpose other than safeguarding children. This is why we are so pleased to see the Home Secretary treating this issue with the gravitas it deserves. While an ambitious work plan lies ahead, today we take a crucial step toward lasting change. By embracing and implementing these measures, we can move forward with renewed purpose and determination. “This is a significant milestone in our journey,” said Fay Maxted, CEO of The Survivors Trust and ACT on IICSA steering member. “I, along with many other survivors, look forward to working closely with the government through the implementation process to turn these recommendations into real action. Together, we can forge a future where all forms of sexual abuse are eradicated.” ACT on IICSA remains committed to collaborating with the government, specifically on their lived experience consultation plan, and ensuring that these recommendations lead to meaningful action and systemic reform.
