Flexible English and Maths Requirements: Employers can now decide if apprentices aged 19 and over need to achieve Level 2 English and maths qualifications to complete their apprenticeship. This change is expected to enable up to 10,000 more apprentices to qualify each year, particularly benefiting high-demand sectors like healthcare, social care, and construction. These reforms aim to empower employers with greater flexibility, streamline the apprenticeship process, and support economic growth by developing a skilled workforce. From April, National Insurance (NI) contributions are increasing, but did you know that if you employ an apprentice under 25, you are exempt from paying NI contributions on their earnings up to £50,270 per year? This could mean significant savings for your business! 💰 Example: Hiring an apprentice under 25 on a £20,000 salary could save you around £2,250 per year in NI contributions. Plus, if they’re aged 16-18, you could also receive a £1,000 grant! This exemption applies to both new apprentices and existing employees enrolled in an approved apprenticeship programme. We were delighted to welcome Toby Perkins MP to our Chesterfield Centre on Friday. Toby had the opportunity to meet some of our learners and see firsthand the impact of our programmes.
