Kilmac and BAM Inspire Students with Cutting-Edge Construction Technology 👷♂️👷♀️ Kilmac, in partnership with BAM UK & Ireland, was delighted to host a hands-on workshop for S3 Graphic Communication students at Blairgowrie High School, focusing on the use of the Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny). These specialised tools are essential in the construction and utilities industries for detecting and locating underground services such as cables, pipes, and other utilities. During the workshop, students learned about the function and purpose of the CAT and Genny, the importance of using them to ensure safety on-site, and the reasons why Kilmac and BAM employ them across various projects. The session involved a practical exercise in which students identified underground services around the school and then transferred the data onto graph paper. By overlaying GPS coordinates onto site plans, the students could create accurate maps of underground utilities—a valuable skill that directly relates to their studies. This workshop was a fantastic opportunity to showcase real-world applications of technology used in construction and demonstrate how it connects with academic subjects like graphic communication. We received excellent feedback from the students, who were enthusiastic about the practical aspect of the session. A big thank you to Matthew MacDougall and Steven T. for their time and expertise in leading this session. We are incredibly proud to continue supporting local schools alongside BAM and fostering social impact through educational initiatives. At Kilmac, we believe in the importance of investing in the future generation by helping them understand the technology and skills required in the industry. #Kilmac #BAM #SocialImpact #STEM #Education #Construction #Technology #Groundworks #Blairgowrie #CommunityEngagement Paul Carle David Brodie

In partnership with SPOA-Scottish Plant Owners Association and Kingdom Plant, we were able to utilise their state-of-the-art machine simulator to provide students with an interactive and immersive experience, allowing them to explore the technical skills required in the groundworks industry. The simulator was a major attraction as we visited nine schools across Fife, giving students hands-on exposure to what a career in this field might look like. Over the course of 108 hours of engagement, we connected with an impressive 427 pupils, offering them valuable insight into the dynamic and rewarding opportunities that careers in engineering and construction offer. Many students were intrigued by the real-world applications of civil engineering, and we were thrilled to see such enthusiasm for our industry. Bert Hope John Sibbald Matthew MacDougall
