About us
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London is Europe’s largest centre for research and education in psychiatry, psychology, and basic and clinical neuroscience. It produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on psychiatry and mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2021), and on this metric has risen from 16th (2014) to 4th (2021) in the world for highly cited neuroscience outputs. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), 90% of research at the IoPPN was deemed ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (3* and 4*). World-leading research from the IoPPN has made, and continues to make, an impact on how we understand, prevent and treat mental illness, neurological conditions, and other conditions that affect the brain.

With 15M+ people in the UK managing a long-term condition (LTC) — and 30% also facing mental health challenges — there is a clear need for effective psychological support. This remains a key NHS priority, yet access to timely, evidence-based mental health care is still a challenge. That’s why we’re proud to collaborate with King's College London researchers on Orbi, a mobile app helping people with LTCs manage their mental health. Orbi uniquely addresses co-morbid anxiety and depression linked to LTCs, combining evidence-based interventions with insights from patient advisory groups. Recent research published in the journal Psychological Medicine speaks for itself: ✔️ 89% of users reported clinically significant improvement in illness-related distress ✔️ Users experienced a measurable increase in quality of life ✔️ The app has been well-accepted, with early feedback highlighting its ease of use With this continuing collaboration, we’re planning to scale our impact by helping more people manage their health with confidence. If you’d like to learn more or explore partnership opportunities, reach out at the link in the comments. You can also find out more about Orbi research findings, or read the full paper using the link in the comments.
