  • On Saturday, we held our annual Supporter's Day, and as usual it was a delight to have so many amazing volunteers and wild-minded people under one roof! This year's theme was 'Species on the brink- and the incredible people helping them' 💪 The day kicked off with our Chair Julian Jackson setting the scene, before introducing our esteemed keynote speaker Anthony Chadwick, CEO of Alpha Vet International. Along with activities and presentations, we were wowed by inspirational stories from our Youth Council before presenting our favourite part of the day- the Action for Nature Awards! 🏆 Thank you to all those who organised such a heart-warming event at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy and everyone who came along to make the day what it was 💚

  • Next Thursday is #worldmentalhealthday and this year the theme is mental health in the workplace. Burn out and presenteeism are some of the results of poor working mental health, and it is the responsibility of workplaces to make sure that their employees are happy, supported and that their health is invested in. Nature can be a great way to help people feel well, even allowing your employees to have a longer break to fit a walk outside can make a difference. If you'd like to learn nature-based wellbeing skills, why not book your team onto a Wild Wellbeing Day with us? https://ow.ly/Z7g150TzRLi 🎞️ by Standby Productions #workplacewellbeing #wellbeing

  • Earlier this week, our ambassador Simon Owen 🎥🌍 of Standby Productions came on an exclusive tour of one of our hidden nature reserves, a special place which is kept wild by having no public access. As a result, the site is a haven for wildlife and features a wide variety of flora, along with a special surprise 🌊 Here’s a short video Simon put together on his phone of the trip to the site 🎥 Find out more about this amazing place and its secrets in our latest blog - https://lnkd.in/e8qT_2PV

  • As the colder months roll around and bird nesting season is over, rhododendron management begins. 🌸 Our volunteers at Philips Park, Bury manage the invasive rhododendron each autumn, which, without intervention, will spread and displace native species. This causes a loss in woodland value as there is little opportunity to have mixed species and mixed habitats that you would expect to see in a typical English woodland. 🌲 We manage the nature reserve on behalf of Bury Council, and in this video Paul from the Council explains more about why it is so important to manage. Many thanks to Youth Leads UK for producing the video! https://lnkd.in/eRzQy_T9

We're thrilled to have reached a major milestone in our Step up for Wildlife appeal, having raised over £150,000 – this means we're now more than 50% to our £300,000 target! A huge thank you to everyone who has generously donated, raised funds, or spread the word about our appeal – we are so grateful. The funds raised so far are already going to make a difference for our region's wildlife, allowing us to: 🌳 Restore woodland habitats for threatened willow tits 🐣 Work to re-establish the tern colony at Seaforth Nature Reserve 🐦 Create important hedgerow habitat at Cutacre Nature Reserve 🎓 Run additional nature-based education sessions, nurturing the region's young minds But there is still so much more we want to achieve! To learn more about our ongoing plans for the remaining appeal funds as they are announced, or to make a donation, please visit our Step up for Wildlife appeal page: lancswt.org.uk/appeal

🌱 An update on BNG and carbon credits for farmers and land managers 🌱 Biodiversity Net-Gain and carbon credits, such as Wilder Carbon, offer farmers and land managers a potential source of income to manage their land for nature. But there are a few questions cropping up around this, such as... - How are these schemes developing? - What do farmers and land managers need to be aware of when thinking about engaging these schemes? - Are there any challenges?   Drawing on their experience working with these schemes in the North West, James Hall, our Head of Green Finance, and Mike Longdon, Peatland Programme Technical Lead, will give a local update and cover the above questions. 🌍   The workshop will take place on Weds 28th August, 10:00-11:30am and will be held online via Teams.
