Yesterday MIPIM... today UKSPA, where Philip Macdonald is leading a panel discussion to explore the question of whether net zero is achievable in laboratories, joined by colleagues from across the built environment, Alison Wring, Tim Fry and Gary Clark. The challenge of delivering energy efficient and environmentally friendly space for science is one that I2SL: International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories is tackling head on, with their recent launch here in the UK along with their Labs2Zero programme. Phil recently spoke to 'Breakthrough' magazine to share his aspirations for the sector through his role in the new UK Chapter of I2SL. Its nice to have another chance to shout about making the shortlist for an Architect of the Year Award! The 'Gateway to Nature Centre' at Corrieshalloch Gorge was recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Architect of the Year Awards for One off Small Project of the Year. Driving towards a summer 2026 completion, its great to see construction progressing at the new Radionuclide building at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow, being delivered through hub West Scotland on behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The new facility sees the creation of a new manufacturing lab facility with clean rooms and support spaces, which replaces the existing Western General provision. Our healthcare team have designed a welcoming, robust building with red brick and zinc exterior, in part an architectural nod to the adjacent Calman Cancer support centre, dating back to the arts and crafts era. We’re proud to play a central role in this vital new facility that will serve 60% of the Scottish cancer patient population. #healthcarearchitecture #radionuclidedepartment #cancercaredesign
