On a chilly Friday, 9 members of Leaders Romans Group joined up in Bristol with Buglife and Your Park Bristol and Bath to help improve Willmott Park. The public green space features a decorative ditch running through the field, and was in quite rough shape. The team got to work cleaning up litter from all over the park to start the day. After collecting the rubbish, prepping the ground for planting began. By tilling the ditch, the group from LRG was then able to plant wildflower plug plants - which are young, partially grown plants, that have a better chance of survival than just seeds and provide immediate habitat to insects and other small creatures. Their work will not only improve biodiversity in Bristol by improving habitat for pollinators and other species, but also beautify a local green space valued by the community. Thank you LRG for taking part in another volunteering day to help improve our local ecosystems. How will the property market respond to an increase in local authority property sales? Research carried out by UNISON ahead of its annual conference in September showed a collective hole in local authority finances amounting to more than £4bn for 2025/6. This follows a government decision earlier this year that nineteen local authorities in the worst economic circumstances would be allowed to sell property and other assets to pay for services, in a break with the rule which bans councils from selling assets to cover day-to-day spending.
