Fresh from a fantastic origin trip to Peru, the Lincoln & York team are back at the roastery and brimming with insight from their latest adventure. 🎒 Sourcing coffee from more than 40 origins around the world means that we work with both commodity and speciality traders to find the best-quality producers of coffee. As one of the major coffee-growing regions worldwide, the team’s trip to Peru has given us plenty to talk about… ☕The team saw first-hand what goes into the sourcing of the country’s coffee blend, famed for its hints of chocolate, citrus and stone fruit. 🌱They also learnt more about the work taking place at World Coffee Research’s station, Cenfrocafe Peru, which is one of the trial sites testing the growth of the first climate change resistant seedlings from the Innovea Global Breeding Network. You can see some of the team’s many highlights in our reel below, and if you’d like to learn more about what goes into our ethical coffee sourcing and buying process, you can read more here: https://lnkd.in/exhYYeu2 #Peru #Coffee #CoffeePartner #WorldCoffeeResearch Chris Tough Dave Loan

Could you pick a winning latte artist? ☕ Thomas Hirst, one of our talented Q-graders and coffee buyer, was recently invited to judge the final of a national barista competition for one of our customers. Participants were asked to pick and present their own single origin coffee to a room of enthusiasts, brew their own filter coffee, create their own seasonal drink and showcase their very best latte art. As you’ll see from the pictures below, the competition was pretty tough, and Thomas’ job was far from easy! It’s our pleasure to support our customers through events like these and see the brilliant new talent brewing in the coffee industry. Congratulations to all involved! #BaristaCompetition #LatteArt #QGrader #Coffee #CoffeePartner

This week some of the Lincoln & York team are heading over to Peru, where we’ll be paying a visit to Cenfrocafe Peru one of World Coffee Research’s partner organisations🌍 While the demand for coffee continues to increase, climate change is putting increasing pressure on coffee communities, which could lead to a serious coffee shortage as soon as 2030. To face this, World Coffee Research is working with research stations and national coffee institutes across the world to transplant the first climate change resilient seedlings from the Innovea Global Arabica Breeding Network into fields for evaluation. Our team is really excited to be visiting research station CENFROCAFE to explore the trial beds and learn more about the project’s progress with the team on the ground. World Coffee Research’s work exploring new coffee varieties that can face the threats of climate change has never been more important, and we are proud to be supporting them on this vital project. Coffee is still UK consumers’ hot beverage of choice...☕ Category Insight Manager Richard Milner recently shared his thoughts with The Caterer on coffee market growth over the last 12 months and what is driving it. Richard details how consumers are opting for more indulgent coffees and switching coffee purchases from full-service restaurants to coffee shops, bakery and quick-service restaurants as they seek both to manage increasingly squeezed budgets and the perennial desire for a treat … Want to learn more? What’s brewing in Leeds? ☕ Recently, our team went on a coffee safari across Leeds city centre, looking at speciality independent coffee shops as well as high street chains to experience the latest out of home coffee trends first hand. We explored a mixture of impressive craft coffee shops, including Miles & Co, Mrs Athas, Kapow, Laynes and Raw Coffee and chains such as Pret, Costa and Nero (to name a few!), looking at everything from menus and coffee quality to customer service, the overall store environment and any marketing that caught our eye. Is there a nearby hot spot we missed on our safari? Let us know in the comments and we’ll be sure to pop it on our list for next time… #Leeds #Coffee #CoffeePartner #CoffeeSafari

Since our last coffee market update in April, we’ve seen big changes in both the Robusta and Arabica markets... Here’s what you need to know: ☕Robusta is continuing to hit highs we have never seen before. From June onwards, records have been broken again with last week (ending 12th July) seeing the market break through $4,650/tonne for the first time in its history! This is likely driven by the lack of Vietnamese Robusta available, with the new crop not shipping until Q3 this year. As a result, alternative origins are selling fast as the demand remains stable. ☕Over on the Arabica front, volatility in the market has remained high since April when trade reached 240clb ($5,290/tonne). While the market remained somewhat stable throughout May, the last six weeks have seen a series of steady increases. As of last week up to 12th July, we saw the market trade above 255clb its highest level since 2022, likely driven by the lack of Robusta. Want to learn more? Lincoln & York has been shortlisted for the The Food and Drink Federation’s Sustainable Packaging Initiative Award 2024! Reducing our non-recyclable plastic usage across 2,500 SKUs and 15 packing lines, without compromising on the quality or integrity of our products has been no mean feat. The team undertook a step-by-step decision-making process including extensive testing, which resulted in over 112 tonnes of non-recyclable plastic packaging being removed from the business over a 12-month period. It’s an achievement we’re really proud of and it’s great to see our work recognised through this shortlist. Congrats to the team, as well as our fellow nominees! 🥳 #FDFAwards #SustainablePackaging #Coffee

Nominations are now open for the European Coffee Awards 2024 - recognising the most influential brands in coffee! This year marks an important milestone for our business as we celebrate our 30th Anniversary - and here's just a few of the things we've been up to... • In 2023 we achieved the status of Carbon Neutral Roastery - 1 year ahead of our original target. • We hosted a special 30th Anniversary celebration at London Coffee Festival to thank our brilliant customers and suppliers from across the coffee and hospitality industry for their support over the past 30 years. • We launched a brand new website showcasing all of the great work that the team do every day to supply the best Private Label coffee to the UK and European markets. • We launched an impressive new interactive roastery experience - where you can immerse yourself in our world of coffee roasting, from sourcing to packing and everything in-between. • We're building a community reservoir in Burundi in partnership with our friends at Omwani and Migoti - and supporting the communities we source from. • We're continuing to invest in our state of the art facilities at the roastery with an additional £1m investment in a high speed packing line in the summer of 2024. Being nominated for these awards would make our year, and we'd be thrilled if you could nominate us in the category for 'Europe's Best Commercial Roaster' here: https://lnkd.in/eKZtCiSi #EuropeanCoffeeAwards2024 #Nomination #Coffee #CoffeePartner
