About us
Liverpool Cathedral is more than an iconic building. It’s a vibrant, active place that the people of the city, regions and world encounter in many ways. Led by our Dean we have reflected on our mission and ministry. This led to us seeing the word Encounter become of increasing importance to us. Encounter is how a gala dinner relates to a school trip. Encounter is how a tourist visit relates to an awards ceremony. Encounter is how they all relate to our main purpose of prayer, worship and service. People encounter us in many ways. But in each way, we hope they encounter a warm welcome and sense of God. We believe everyone will encounter: • Inspiring Christian worship • A breathtaking experience • A community committed to justice and mercy • A safe, generous place in joy and sorrow • A dynamic community of staff and volunteers • A God who knows and loves you Our awesome scale and beauty is matched with a dedicated events management team and excellent catering. Having Britain's largest organ means we can add a spine chilling fanfare. We are well located with a large range of accommodation in walking distance and our large car park makes us an easily accessible venue for local, national and international visitors. All in all we are a totally unique venue and one that will live long in the memory of all guests. October is Black History Month, a time for us to reflect, honour, and celebrate the immense contributions of Black people to British history, culture, and society. It’s also a crucial moment to recognise the stories that have been overlooked or erased from mainstream narratives. As part of our commitment to this important work, tonight we’re thrilled to host a sold-out Black History Month Lecture with historian and BAFTA-winning filmmaker, David Olusoga. David’s work has brought vital historical perspectives to the forefront, and we are excited to welcome everyone attending tonight’s event. To everyone joining us this evening, we can’t wait to hear David's insights and engage in meaningful conversations that deepen our understanding of Black history. Thank you for being part of this celebration with us. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2024 #LiverpoolCathedral #DavidOlusoga #SoldOutLecture #CelebrateBlackHistory
