Work is underway to create 93 new homes in Exeter which will bring more than £1.5 million in vital community investment. We have partnered with the Edenstone Group to build 61 private sale properties and 32 affordable homes off Spruce Close and Celia Crescent, Beacon Heath. Funding has been allocated for healthcare, schools and youth facilities, walking and cycling routes, plus bus routes with the Exeter F1 service to be extended to run through the new development offering a sustainable transport options for residents. Designed to complement the local character, the homes will feature a mix of brick, stone and render finishes. The first homes are expected to be ready to move into from the autumn. Our residents have moved into a new affordable housing scheme at Avonmouth. Built on a brownfield site, close to the port of Bristol, the development provides affordable homes to rent for people in the local area. LiveWest partnered with Bristol City Council and Clayewater Homes Ltd to build the scheme. Our new development in Cornwall has helped a young couple find their first home. Sarah and Ashley were struggling to find a home to share after deciding to move in together. After finding it expensive to rent and thinking buying was unachievable, they moved into Ashley’s parents’ home while trying to save for a home. They applied for a shared ownership property near Newquay, after a friend of theirs had purchased a home with us six months ago. Sarah said: “I loved the look of Nansledan, so we applied not thinking we would get it, but we did, and it’s changed our lives. Our St Ives retrofit programme will not only improve the energy efficiency of our homes but also encourage young students to pursue renewable careers.   With a shortage of renewable careers in Cornwall, this programme will help students gain more insight into renewable careers through local secondary schools and colleges.   The multi-million pound low carbon project will see 200 of our homes undergo a range of energy-efficient retrofit works depending on the home's current energy performance rating (EPC). Around 200 young kids get involved with successful community youth project 🧩 After requests from our local residents to have more activities in the area, Minehead EYE - Youth & Community partnered with LiveWest, Magna Housing Ltd and Somerset Wildlife Trust to provide a series of sessions. Thanks to our funding, activities were free for the residents so they could come along and have some fun without worrying about the cost. The 16-week project saw around 200 local teenagers and young children (aged between two to 16-year-olds) take part in a series of 16 weekly sessions held in the multi-use games area. Activities ranged from various sporting activities including basketball, cricket and football, as well as large games of Uno and chances for the children and young people to get creative with art 🏀🏏 Shona Stone, our Community Connector is thrilled with the community engagement they’ve received for the project. She said: “It’s been great to see so many young people from the Seaward Way community coming each week to get involved in these sessions." Introducing Samara and Rozie-Mae – a mum and daughter who live in one of our supported housing schemes 👩👧 Samara Oldfield moved into one of our supported housing schemes in Cornwall when she was 17-years-old and six months pregnant with her daughter, Rozie-Mae. With her daughter now a year old and happily settled into her first-ever home, Samara shares her thoughts: “I feel that LiveWest, having places like these, gives people more opportunities to start and provides them with more of a chance. "It gives you more of an opportunity and I feel there’s not many places that will offer you to live with your child. I feel like with young parents, because that’s what we all are, it’s really useful to have an opportunity to meet other young parents but also live with them.” We began our Let’s Talk Supported Housing Campaign last November to raise the profile of supported housing, raise awareness and share our customer stories. With more customers sharing their story with us to highlight why supported housing has been so important to them, so far the campaign has been a success! LiveWest has supported a new scheme, Green Box Okehampton, which supports families with fresh food at the local primary school by offering a box which has surplus food. The project was set up by the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust with our support where we provided funding for key items. The food comes from FareShare UK South West, who rescue good-to-eat food at risk of being wasted. LiveWest is recognising National Apprenticeship Week as it provides us with an opportunity to celebrate our apprentices. Our apprentices, George and Craig, both decided to have a career change and try something new with our Apprenticeship Programme. George, worked for BMW for ten years and although he enjoyed the job, felt he wanted to give something else a go. Craig worked in the leisure industry and got to the level of a supervisor but aspired for a more practical job.
