Lomar Shipping
Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain and Storage
Privately-owned ship ownership and management company with more than 40 years of industry expertise.
About us
Lomar is a leading ship owner and ship management group with a diversified fleet of around 40 container vessels, bulk carriers, and chemical and product tankers. With nearly 50 years of industry expertise as a leading ship owner and operator, our fleet facilitates the movement of a multi-million-tonne cargo portfolio annually. We work globally with major first-class and blue-chip organisations, from charterers to shipping professionals, regulatory authorities and governments. Originally known for our fleet of ‘reefers’ – refrigerated cargo ships – Lomar has broadened its interests over close to five decades with a growing and mixed sector fleet. This diversity has allowed us to invest in market cycles, while maintaining a growth strategy that has seen us trade over 150 vessels. This included the ordering of 43 ECO new buildings (container ships and 'Ultramax' bulk carriers) from Chinese shipyards for over $1bn - while also disposing of assets during optimum periods. Lomar Shipping completed the acquisition of Carl Büttner Holding in 2022, uniting two family-run companies and further building our tanker fleet. A 166-year-old shipowner and manager, it is also known for its technical management expertise and includes CB Maritime in Rijeka, Croatia, a dedicated crewing agency for the tanker fleet. Among our shared values, Lomar and Carl Büttner are both dedicated to growing the next generation of maritime leaders – including our Achim Boehme Scholarship program that is supporting shipping students at Hochschule Bremen - City University of Applied Sciences. Lomar is a subsidiary of Libra Group, a privately-owned global business group with 30 operating entities - 20 businesses in 60 countries predominantly focused on aviation leasing, renewable energy (solar, wind and waste-to-energy projects), maritime (including shipbuilding for the offshore wind sector), real estate and hospitality, diversified investments and 10 social & humanitarian initiatives.

At #Lomar and CB Tankers, we place huge value on the wellbeing of our crew and are dedicated to ensuring they feel safe, supported, and prepared for every voyage. We are proud to share that our Achim Boehme Scholarship beneficiary, Michael Pasion, has reached two major milestones! First up, Michael completed the Bremen Marathon with an impressive time of 3:39:27, surpassing his goal of finishing in under 4 hours. His dedication extended beyond the race, as he successfully raised over €1,000 for Deutsche Seemannsmission (German Seafarers' Mission), which provides support for the seafarers who undertake such challenging roles in seas and oceans around the world. In addition, we are happy to confirm that Michael has also received the prestigious annual #DAAD Award in Bremen, which honours international students in Germany for their outstanding academic performance and personal commitment. Michael’s achievements are a true reflection of his dedication, both academically and in service to the community. He is a very worthy recipient of grants from our scholarship programme, named after and as a lasting tribute to our late CEO. We congratulate Michael and the rest of our students on their remarkable achievements, and look forward to seeing them continue to inspire us all!

Exciting developments from our lomarlabs portfolio startup, Bennu, which successfully tested its innovative #methane removal technology recently in Baltimore aboard our #Lomar bulker, SYROS TRADER. Methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gasses, is in fact 30 times as potent as carbon dioxide and plays a critical role in climate change, so innovations like these are crucial in the fight for a sustainable future. Bennu's technology uses UV light to permanently destroy methane molecules in the air, providing a powerful new tool in the global effort to combat climate change. Companies and governments can use Bennu technology to directly mitigate their own methane emissions or buy verified, permanent carbon credits to offset their global carbon emissions. For deeper insights into this game-changing innovation, be sure to watch lomarlabs' Q&A with David Henkel-Wallace of Bennu below. This successful test marks a pivotal first step in developing this innovative technology, and we’re excited to share more updates as it continues to evolve in the months ahead. Learn more about Bennu’s breakthrough by visiting bennuclimate.com.

Today we celebrate #WorldMentalHealthDay, an important moment to reflect on the well-being of employees across industries. This year’s theme, ‘Workplace Mental Health’, resonates deeply in the maritime sector, where the unique challenges of living for long spells at sea can weigh heavily on the mental well-being of seafarers. For us, this is not just about a single day of recognition—it’s a reminder of how crucial mental health is to the performance, productivity, and overall happiness of our crew. Prioritising mental health isn't just good practice; it's essential for a healthy and thriving workplace. At #Lomar, we understand that fostering a supportive environment starts with small, meaningful changes. We are committed to ensuring our crew has access to the resources they need, including mental health support through the Oceans Learning Platform. Beyond this, we make seafarer well-being a priority by offering nutritious meals and a range of facilities to help maintain a healthy lifestyle onboard, foster a sense of community and help ensure emotional balance. We are dedicated to making sure our people, both ashore and at sea, are supported every step of the way. #WorkplaceMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #Shipping #Wellness

World Maritime Day, organised by the International Maritime Organisation (@IMO) to recognise the vital work of the #maritime sector and its key workers, was celebrated yesterday. International #shipping transports more than 80% of global trade worldwide, and underpins supply chains, international trade and globalisation. #Seafarers are the foundation of our industry and this year’s theme is: ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First!’ We wholeheartedly support a safety-led culture in shipping and can’t thank our seafarers enough for their work on @Lomar vessels worldwide. In recognition of World Maritime Day, the IMO headquarters in London and the Seafarer's memorial are annually lit in sea-blue colours. A short video message by IMO Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, which reiterates this year's World Maritime Day theme "Navigating the future: safety first!” can be seen here: https://lnkd.in/efv46Yup #WorldMaritimeDay
