About us
The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method was founded by Karl Popper in 1946 and is renowned for a type of philosophy that is both continuous with the sciences and socially relevant. The Department embodies LSE’s long tradition of analytic, interdisciplinary, and socially engaged philosophy. This tradition, and the fact that to become part of it, all you need is a critical, independent mind-set and a desire to do empirically informed philosophy, is exemplified by some of the world’s leading thinkers and social reformers from diverse backgrounds who have worked or studied at LSE.

👨⚕️ Why Is Procedural Fairness in Health Financing Valuable? A previous #LSEPhilosophy blog post proposed a framework for fair—that is, open and inclusive—ways of making decisions on how to finance Universal Health Coverage (UHC). However, some critics question the value of procedural fairness. In out latest post, which draws on a co-authored response to such critics, Alex Voorhoeve examines its worth: https://lnkd.in/esVJH8j6

New #LSEPhilosophy blog article 🩺 Ensuring Universal Health Coverage (UHC)—that everyone around the world has access to an adequate package of needed health services of sufficient quality at bearable cost—is one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and is an aim of health policy in many countries. But UHC is costly, and consequently, countries face difficult decisions on how to fund it. How can such decisions be made in an equitable manner? In our latest blog post, Alex Voorhoeve answers this question. https://lnkd.in/eja7j-dR #LSE #Philosophy #PartOfLSE #Healthcare #Ethics
