🔔 UK Telecoms & Mobile Roundup: 19th to 25th October 2024 🔔 Using our digital shelf toolkit, Magpie DBX, we have obtained crucial information about the SIM-free pricing of the Samsung Electronics S24 series*: 🔎 Samsung has reduced the prices of the S24 series by offering voucher codes at checkout: ----------------------  • Galaxy S24: 20% off, from  (RRP)£799 to £639.20  • Galaxy S24+: 20% off, from (RRP) £999 to £799.80  • Galaxy S24 Ultra: 20% off, from (RRP) £1249 to £999.20 🔎 Currys plc Group’s response to Samsung’s discounts on the S24 Series differs across its retailers: ----------------------  • Galaxy S24: Priced at £799. Currys and Mobiles.co.uk offer £100 cashback, while iD Mobile and CPW offer £100 cashback plus an additional £75 trade-in  • Galaxy S24+: Priced at £999. Currys matches Samsung's 20% discount (via voucher code), while iD Mobile and CPW offer £100 extra trade-in. Mobiles.co.uk offers no promotions  • Galaxy S24 Ultra: Priced at £1249. Currys matches Samsung's 20% discount (via voucher code), while iD Mobile and CPW offer £125 extra trade-in. Mobiles.co.uk offers no promotions 🔎 AO Group’s response to Samsung’s discounts on the S24 Series: ----------------------  • MPD and Buy Mobiles do not offer any promotions and the prices remain full RRP (see above) NB - Buy Mobiles advertise savings; however, they do not detail where these savings are made up from, and the price remains at full RRP  • AO offer a flat discount on all devices (see prices above) 🔎 EE has not reduced prices or offered any promotions: ---------------------- Prices remain at full RRP:  • Galaxy S24: £799  • Galaxy S24+: £999  • Galaxy S24 Ultra: £1249 Nick Eames, Insight Product Manager at Magpie DBX, had this to say: “The competitive response to Samsung’s price reductions reflects a clear trend across UK retailers—those who quickly match or exceed discounts are better positioned to capture market share, particularly as consumers look for the best deals on high-demand devices. "Our Magpie DBX toolkit reveals that while Samsung is driving this initial price drop, retailers like Currys and CPW have taken the opportunity to add value through cashback and trade-in offers. In this fast-moving environment, retailers that remain at full RRP may find themselves struggling to compete, so we’re sure to see others adjusting their prices soon.” *Information correct as off 22/10/24

It’s evident that telecoms are aligning their airtime offers closely with consumer demand.”

🔔 UK Telecoms & Mobile Roundup: 5th to 11th October 2024 🔔 This past week, we have used our digital shelf toolkit Magpie DBX to reveal key insights relating to the UK’s mobile and telecoms markets: 🔎 EE has made further enhancements to their PAYG promotion. Increasing their £15 and £20 packs from previously offering double data to now offering Treble data: ---------------------- ·        £15 was on promo: Was 25GB to 50GB – Now offering 75GB ·        £20 was on promo: Was 50GB to 100GB – Now offering 150GB With Vodafone also currently offering a promotion, both Vodafone and EE offer considerably more data across their PAYG compared to O2 (Telefónica UK) and Three UK 🔎 Asda Mobile launch a new 25GB Promotional plan across its 12 Month SIM Only  ---------------------- It’s 25GB for just £5.99pm (normally £14pm) and is the most competitive offering in this data bracket, with the cost per GB unrivalled by all other MVNOs Nick Eames, Insight Product Manager at Magpie DBX, offered further analysis on this week’s industry shifts: “The continued adjustments in PAYG and SIM Only plans underline the fierce competition among MNOs and MVNOs. EE’s treble data promotion and Asda Mobile’s highly competitive 25GB SIM-only offer signal that providers are pushing the limits to attract customers with high-value data deals. "Building on last week’s trends, we’re seeing providers not only balancing competitive pricing with data but also strategically targeting price-sensitive customers who demand more data for their money. With Vodafone, EE, and Asda Mobile stepping up their promotions, it's clear that the race to capture customer attention—and retention—is more intense than ever.”

🔔 UK Telecoms & Mobile Roundup: 28th September to 3rd October 2024 🔔 Over the last week, our Insights Team have used digital shelf toolkit Magpie DBX to uncover recent changes occurring within the UK’s mobile and telecoms industries: 🔎 O2 (Telefónica UK) Has A New Airtime Promo ---------------------- This applies to the following handsets:  • Samsung Galaxy A3  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra  • Samsung Galaxy S24 FE 🔎 Three UK Refreshes Its PAYG ---------------------- A number of plans now offer considerably less data than previously. The change means Three are no longer offering the most competitive plans. Due to Vodafone’s long-running PAYG promo, they offer the most competitive plans when compared against other MNOs 🔎 EE Makes Significant Price Changes ---------------------- These include reducing overall device costs across Google Pixel 9 Series handsets. Despite the changes, however, Three remains the most competitively priced network for these handsets 🔎 iD Mobile Updates All Its SIM Only Plans ---------------------- This applies to 1, 12, and 24-month contracts, reducing the data offered at each price point. Despite the change, iD Mobile continue to be very competitive, especially across 12 and 24-month SIM Only, where they largely continue to offer the most competitive plans 🔎 All MNOs Continue To Spotlight The iPhone 16 Series ---------------------- While all 16 Series handsets feature prominently across MNO homepages, it’s the iPhone 16 Pro that takes centre stage for most Nick Eames, Insight Product Manager at Magpie DBX, had this to say: “The recent adjustments in PAYG and SIM Only plans reflect a growing trend among MNOs and MVNOs to balance competitive pricing with data offerings in an increasingly saturated market. “As mobile data consumption continues to rise, providers are recalibrating their plans to maintain profitability while still attracting cost-conscious customers. “Vodafone's sustained PAYG promotions and iD Mobile's updated SIM Only plans highlight the ongoing competition, with both MNOs and MVNOs striving to find the right balance between value and customer retention.”

📢 Diving into the promotional strategies behind the iPhone 16 launch using Magpie DBX insights! In our comprehensive report, we explore how Apple and competing OEMs are rolling out their marketing efforts. Here's what stands out from our analysis: 🎯 Apple’s Strategy  • Heavy focus on ecosystem integration, promoting the seamless experience across devices  • Partnerships with carriers to offer exclusive bundle offers, like Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and Apple Fitness+  • For headphones, Apple’s promotional approach remains focused on ecosystem benefits, like 3 months of Apple Music and free engraving across regions  • Despite competitive offers, Apple prioritises long-term value through its ecosystem, rather than offering steep discounts or trade-in incentives 📊 Competitors’ Tactics  • Samsung Electronics has taken a more aggressive promotional approach, leveraging competitive pricing and trade-in offers for the Galaxy series  • Samsung’s approach of combining hardware discounts and trade-in values across multiple markets helps offset its higher prices, offering a well-rounded promotional strategy  • Google's Pixel 9 series is positioned as a lower-cost alternative, with marketing campaigns highlighting the value proposition over premium features  • Furthermore, Google actually offers the most aggressive pricing for other devices in markets like the US, where the Pixel Watch 3 can result in a negative effective cost 💡 But, what do these strategies mean for Apple’s market share, and how might they impact the competitive landscape? We’ve asked Mariana Cosoiu, Business Intelligence Analyst at Magpie DBX, to give us her perspective on the evolving promotional battlefield: “Apple’s approach to promotions continues to emphasise the long-term value of its ecosystem rather than deep discounts. While this resonates with loyal users, the increasing aggressiveness from competitors like Samsung and Google in offering hardware discounts and competitive trade-in values presents a challenge. “Samsung’s combination of trade-in deals and merchandise offers is particularly appealing to value-driven consumers, especially in markets where immediate cost savings are prioritised. Google, on the other hand, is positioning its Pixel 9 series with aggressive pricing, effectively undercutting both Apple and Samsung in several key markets. “This highly competitive landscape—now further fuelled by AI-driven innovations—forces Apple to balance its premium positioning with growing market pressure from competitors focused on cost-effective solutions and aggressive promotions.” This is just part of what we do – the whole thing is available exclusively to Magpie DBX clients! 📢 Squawk, squawk! We’ve been hard at work tracking the global launch of the iPhone 16 using Magpie DBX. Our latest 71-page report offers deep insights into the launch, focusing on key aspects such as regional pricing, generational comparisons, competitive landscape, and promotional strategies. 🔍 First in focus: Regional Pricing Highlights  • 🇪🇺 Europe sees higher prices due to taxes and duties  • 🇨🇦 🇦🇺 Canada and Australia also face increased prices  • 🇺🇸 🇯🇵 Meanwhile, US and Japan enjoy some of the most competitive pricing, offering the iPhone 16 at its most affordable levels globally (with comparable specs) 📱 Across iPhone 16 handsets, European markets reflect higher price points. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro Max - Apple's premium offering - is priced similarly to Samsung Electronics’s Galaxy S24 Ultra but is positioned slightly lower, especially in the US and UK. 💡 In several markets, Apple faces increasing pressure from competitors like Samsung and Google, with the Pixel 9 series entering as a lower-cost alternative. This aggressive pricing strategy is set to challenge Apple's dominance. 👉 We asked Mariana Cosoiu, Business Intelligence Analyst at Magpie DBX, for her take on what these regional pricing differences mean: “Apple’s regional pricing differences reflect the company's continued premium positioning but also highlight how competitive pressure is mounting, particularly in markets where competitors like Google and Samsung are pushing aggressive AI innovations. “While iPhone pricing remains most competitive in regions like the US and Japan, consumers in other markets—especially Europe and Canada—face higher costs, which can intensify the scrutiny on the value Apple provides. “At the same time, competitors such as Google’s Pixel 9, with its more affordable pricing and robust AI features, challenge Apple's premium appeal. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra similarly offers cutting-edge AI-driven capabilities, making the landscape even more competitive. “In this global AI race, Apple needs to balance maintaining its premium pricing strategy with delivering enough technological innovation to justify higher prices, especially in markets where consumers have more affordable options.” And this is just part of the sort of thing we do! Only available to Magpie DBX clients, get in touch to request our full report for all the insights and details: https://lnkd.in/eBMMHkuy #iPhone16 #AppleLaunch #PricingAnalysis #MagpieDBX #TechInsights #AppleVsSamsung #Pixel9

While Three increased prices for iPhone 16 models, it remains the most competitive across Apple devices. 🔎 Samsung Promotes Savings of £75 on the Galaxy A35 ---------------------- This has caused a range of vendors to follow suit. Various retailers, including John Lewis & Partners and AO, are offering competitive prices on the Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra, with EE remaining the most competitive for the Galaxy A55 and A35.
