Is burnout an employee’s responsibility? This thought-provoking question emerged during a MAD World panel session focused on personalized mental support. The discussion centered on whether employees working from home should take ownership of time management to safeguard their mental well-being. The panel highlighted that burnout results from a blend of workload, work structuring, efficiency, and time utilization. By optimizing working hours and enhancing efficiency, employees can minimize moments of self-doubt about their achievements. Encouraging efficient work practices to prevent work from encroaching into personal time emerged as a key HR strategy. #MentalHealth #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #HRStrategies #Efficiency #BurnoutPrevention https://lnkd.in/eDn77eKE

I recently had the pleasure of chairing a panel discussion on 'Embracing AI to create a step-change in health and wellbeing at work'. It was a fascinating conversation with our expert panelists Kevin Lyons and Kris Ambler. A few key takeaways from the discussion: -The use of AI in the workplace in relation to employee health will rely on a culture of trust - The team at Wiser in the NHS have found that AI can play a impactful role in accurately managing referrals so more time can be spent on therapy - AI has a powerful use case for early warning detection ahead of crisis - The cost of implementation and lack of understanding or guardrails is proving a barrier to workplace deployment, particularly within leadership - There is a challenge with demonstrating the ROI from such applications which needs collaboration from the buyer and provider - The use of wearables will supersede mobile devices and self service applications will become less relevant #workplaceculture #healthtech #ai #employeehealth #wellbeing Make A Difference Summits

Eighty-two percent of employers say they currently record sickness absence, a marginal improvement on the 80% that said the same in 2023 but not as many as the 85% who recorded sickness in 2022. According to this new research1 from GRiD, the industry...

It's crucial to address the challenge of engaging employees in Health & Wellbeing, highlighted at MAD World 2024. The sector faces issues in motivating employees to prioritize learning in this area. Despite government and industry alignment on the topic, individual employees are currently skeptical about its significance, leading to low engagement rates. Informal conversations during the event emphasized the need for genuine efforts to enhance employee involvement. https://lnkd.in/eEht9bxq

At the recent Make A Difference Summits #MADWorld2024, one of the standout sessions was a lively panel debate on a big question: Institutional Change or Individual Interventions. "Is the key to a happy, healthy, productive workforce down to Institutional Change or Individual Interventions?"

It was a pleasure to speak at the Make A Difference Summits (#madword2024) Legal Industry Summit, last week. I’d flown in from our Milan office and I started the day off having a restorative breakfast with Lucie Gosling-Myers of Lockton and Alison Hall of Feel Good, both of whom are doing some incredible work in the well-being space. I was delighted to chair a panel about re-humanising litigation. I couldn’t have asked for better panellists - Ed Crosse and Nick Manners, or a better host Richard Martin. Ed spoke about the needlessly aggressive approach taken by some litigators in the area of commercial disputes and the impact that that can have on lawyers, and Nick discussed similar unhelpful behaviours in the area of family law disputes. We discussed practical steps that can be taken to mitigate some of these behaviours. We encouraged attendees to consider the Mindful Business Charter litigation guidance and also the guidance for professionals working in family law drafted by Nick and others. It was a great day, full of people trying to make the workplace a better place. I enjoyed meeting all of the exhibitors. I was particularly interested in My Celsius, a #femtech start-up which has created a cooling bracelet that helps to manage menopausal hot flushes. I’m currently advising some start-ups and my conversations with the My Celsius team (and also seeing some of the speakers wearing the bracelet on stage) helped inspired my recent article on FemTech with Linzi Penman and Ryan Wheatley. I spoke with Unmind, who have published their latest report on “the state of well-being in the law.” It’s worth a read! I tested my stress levels with WONE GLOBAL | World Law Alliance (I won’t tell you the results!). I spoke to fellow Scot George Kasparis and learned about Personify Health, the first personalised health platform. I also spoke to Thriiver and in particular Marc Humby about how businesses can create nuero-inclusive cultures. A massive thank you to them as they scored me massive mum points when I came home with a Thriiver cuddly cloud-fish! LawCare - the mental health charity for the legal sector and the wonderful Elizabeth Rimmer were there, highlighting the invaluable, free and confidential support they offer to the profession. My DLA Piper colleagues Safia Ann K. and Jonathan Watkins also spoke on panels and delivered highly valuable insights about mental health, well being and DEI. All in all it was a great event and highlighted the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. Thank you for asking me to be a part of it. 🔗s to the reports and articles mentioned are in the comments. #mindfulbusinesscharter #mentalhealth #madworldfestival #legalsummit #wellbeing #FemTech #makeadifference
