This flourishing forest, with winding paths and tranquil scenery, is only 4 miles from Manchester city centre. Planted in memory of the fallen soldiers of the Second World War, it was one of the UK’s first community forests. 🌳 Its mix of woodland, grassland and wetlands creates a diverse ecosystem. And a haven for wildlife. The River Irk runs through the forest. And, as a site of ecological importance, it’s one of 11 official Local Nature Reserves in Manchester. 🐞 It’s also a great place to unwind and connect with nature. 🚶♀️ When was the last time you explored a forest or wood? Find out about Blackley Forest and other woods we look after on the The Woodland Trust website: https://lnkd.in/eMFW6xuP #ZeroCarbonMcr #ForestDay
