A recently published study in the British Medical Journal has highlighted the benefits of urban greenery in reducing heat-related illnesses and deaths. To combat the climate crisis and alleviate heat stress, urban planning should prioritise the creation of green spaces to sustain human health. How can we identify vulnerable areas? Our HeatView product offers a quick visual overview of neighbourhood susceptibility, enabling informed and timely action. You can read more about the findings in this article from The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/eQDpuiJX

As the world turns its attention to #COP16 in Colombia, we present a crucial response from key stakeholders regarding England's mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), crafted collectively with Ewan Shipley and the University of Bristol. Organisations need reliable data to address nature-related targets, such as the 30x30 initiative effectively. This data establishes a baseline and helps identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement. By analysing objective data, we can monitor biodiversity, track ecosystem changes, and recognise threats such as habitat loss and climate change through proactive collaboration.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and the focus for this year, as designated by the World Federation for Mental Health, is mental health in the workplace. Nobody should have to face mental health challenges alone. How can our workplaces offer more support? We believe in creating respectful environments and encouraging open conversations, valuing mental health as much as productivity. Spending time in nature has a profound impact on mental health, providing an accessible means to boost emotional well-being, promoting mindfulness, and sustaining long-term psychological health. We encourage all our employees to embrace our natural environment as they commit to protecting its future. #HelpingNatureCount #WorldMentalHealthDay

It's fantastic to see Rick Thompson and the ODCGIS Limited team expanding their client base to include another Housing Association. ODC's unique combination of GIS Managed Services and partnerships with data providers, such as ours, sets them apart in the market.
Really positive meeting with Rick Thompson of ODCGIS Limited around utilising GIS mapping for smaller housing providers. The tool has been invaluable on the recent Railway Housing Association grounds maintenance procurement, however there is so much more potential to utilise GIS data insight to improve resident experience. Thanks to Charlotte Wallace Chris Marshall and Joanne Watson for such an engaging session.

Our summer intern, Noor Khan-Lodhi, a final year Geography student at UCL, completed the Space Placements in Industry (SPINtern) Programme with Satellite Applications Catapult. Noor's project focussed on using downstream satellite imagery as a tool for environmental monitoring of habitat change to support Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). "Throughout the internship, I gained a deeper understanding of how Earth Observation can be used to monitor biodiversity and I enjoyed developing my GIS skills to analyse satellite imagery." - Noor Khan-Lodhi We wish her every success in the future.
