HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY! 🙌 You might wonder why we need such a day in 2025?! 👇 Well, unbelievably about half of Brits think women’s equality has gone too far, when in fact in so many areas we’ve gone backwards in the last few years! Yes, of course, we’ve made huge progress, but inevitably when this always happens there is pushback. Just a few facts for you: ⏺ Just 2% of UK venture capital investment goes to female founder teams ⏺ Only 10 out of the 100 companies in the FTSE 100 are led by female CEOs ⏺ The gender pay gap is still a very real thing and a long way from closing ⏺ The World Economic Forum estimates that gender parity is still 134 years away ⏺ Around 122 million girls worldwide are out of school. ⏺ Globally women spend nearly three times as much of their day on unpaid care work as men. ⏺ Every five days a woman is killed by an abusive partner or ex here in the UK. Plus, around the world in countries such as Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, women are being denied the most basic rights. Let today be a reminder that there is still work to be done. It is only by continuing to raise our voices, by challenging wherever we can, and coming together that we can work towards a truly inclusive and equitable world. An interview with me in The Times today on a very challenging couple of weeks with a criminal gang targeting Martha Brook's sold-out stationery advent calendar. I’ve been shocked by how little support there is for businesses, even though this is so clearly fraud. Hundreds of ads have been running across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Amazon using videos and photos stolen from us and even videos of me talking. The response from the Police, Action Fraud, Trading Standards, Advertising Standards, Meta and Amazon has all been disappointing, to say the least. So, I’m pleased to raise awareness of this new sort of scam, which is seemingly widespread across social media, to alert businesses and consumers not to be caught out. Big ones for me are having a tidy desk and taking a proper break at lunch!
