Following a successful week in Cannes at MIPIM 2025 attending many Conferences, observing panel discussions and engaging directly with Keynote speakers, the M+A Team Graeme Beaton LLM, MCIArb, FRICS, Grant Jamieson MRICS, Mark Hirst MRICS, Michael Shirreffs share their main takeaways from the event: ✅ Middle East exhibits showcasing some of the largest projects in the world (Diriyah, ‘New Murabba’, Neom) dominated MIPIM and were the talk of the event. 🌍 Geopolitics was a repeating buzzword at panel discussions resulting in short term disruption and uncertainty within the market. 🏡 PBSA outlook in the UK looks positive. 📉 Planning process and Government policies key reason for lack of overseas investment in the UK market – Middle East and Oceania is the attractive option. 🔧 Skills Shortages at all levels continue to impact the Construction Industry worldwide. 🌱 ESG is a top priority for all stakeholders. ☁️ Cannes weather in March is very similar to the North East of Scotland..!! Exciting news, construction is now underway with Morrison Construction on the new nursery building at Ferryhill Primary School, Aberdeen for our client Aberdeen City Council - City Development & Regeneration. This standalone building, designed by Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects, Wallace Whittle and Fairhurst, embodies innovation, sustainability, and community-focused design. 🌱🏫 The nursery will feature naturally lit play areas and unified indoor-outdoor connections, creating a nurturing and inspiring environment for children to learn and grow, no matter the season. This is the first phase of an exciting redevelopment plan for Ferryhill Primary School, with future enhancements already in the pipeline. Project Completion at Cranford Grange Care Home   We’re pleased to share the successful completion of the refurbishment project at Cranford Grange for our valued client Care UK. As Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Contract Administrators, M+A were proud to oversee this project.   Delivered over 34 weeks, all communal spaces, dining rooms, and reception areas were transformed, alongside the introduction of modern features such as bars, quiet lounges, and a therapy room, providing new spaces for relaxation, socialising, and well-being; creating a more welcoming and comfortable environment.   A big thank you to the Care UK Project Team, Shackletons Ltd, Hannaford , and QAD Architects for their hard work and commitment throughout. We also appreciate the support of the General Manager and the wider Care UK Operations Team, whose collaboration has helped make this refurbishment a success.   We look forward to seeing residents and staff enjoy the newly refreshed spaces. Connect & Reflect Week at Robert Gordon University Last week, our Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management students of Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment - Robert Gordon University had the incredible opportunity to participate in two insightful site visits in Aberdeen, showcasing exemplary repurposing of existing buildings: 1. M&S Fit Out at Union Square 2. ETZ Skills Hub at Altens These projects presented unique challenges and provided our students with valuable exposure to various building technologies, as well as insights into schedule, cost, and contract management. Thanks to Stephen Russell from GRAHAM Group for hosting us at the M&S site and McLeod + Aitken for facilitating this. Similarly, shout out to Jordan Jeffrey from AtkinsRéalis for hosting us at the ETZ site. Project Completion: 99-Bedroom Care Home Refurbishment   We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of a 53-week refurbishment project for a 99-bedroom care home in Richmond for our valued Client CareUK. As Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, and Contract Administrators, McLeod & Aitken were proud to oversee the transformation of all bedrooms, en-suites, communal areas, and reception spaces—all while the care home maintained a remarkable 90-95% occupancy.   This was no ordinary project. Working in a live home brought unique challenges, requiring meticulous planning, collaboration, and sensitivity to the residents and staff. The success of this project was made possible by the incredible efforts of the care home’s General Manager and her dedicated team. Their commitment, adaptability, and support were instrumental every step of the way.   A heartfelt thank you to the entire team involved in delivering this complex project, including the Care UK Project Team, Princebuild Ltd, Cowans Interiors & Shackletons Ltd. Together, we’ve ensured the residents now have an upgraded, comfortable, and welcoming home environment while minimising disruption during the process. Beth Ironside attended the Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management Taster Session at RGU yesterday, where she provided valuable insights into her role as a Quantity Surveyor at McLeod & Aitken. The session, aimed at prospective students exploring their career options after school, was well attended. Beth hopes her experience has inspired students to learn more about both the profession and the course offered at RGU.
