"Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education." We believe in truly developing our staff and allowing those that are willing to gain additional skills and knowledge that will not only benefit us, but also them as they undertake their roles. This CPD session, offered to our staff, saw Mark Goodyear M.A. DTLSS MCMI MSET deliver a great seminar offering an introduction to crowd dynamics, dynamic risk assessments and JESIP inter agency working. The afternoon saw more clinically focused scenarios based around some of the more unique environments we are often working within. Ops Manager, Tom, who organised this session in the main said, "The great thing about sessions such as these is that you bring together the vast experiences of many individuals and share those lessons learnt already. It's only through the facilitation of these sessions that you can really benefit from them. We questioned the validity of delivering crowd dynamic and risk assessment training to our team, but this is incredibly relevant to our operations given we are almost always operating in areas that involve crowds or large numbers of the general public, and it's important that our team can identify if things start to go wrong. That way, not only do we keep our team, but we also minimise the potential impact on the public. From my own background within 999 services, I can attest to the importance of a working understanding of JESIP protocols, and again, our training session demonstrates our recognition that there is very real possibility that we can be the first responders and indeed the initial incident commanders to more major incidents. Our proper initial actions will only serve to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients, the public, and most importantly, our patients as a truly multi-faceted operational safety and medical service provider." Our thanks to Helipad Events // Nick Cox for allowing the use of their hangar for this session. #Safety #Training #CPD #StaffDevelopment #OperationalSafety #JESIP #CrowdSafety #CrowdDynamics #RiskManagement #Medical #Medics #Ambulance #AviationSafety #Helipcopter #Helipad

Very pleased to say that Medirek was asked to support this event from an operational safety and medical standpoint and quite fitting that we did so as a Surrey based business. A successful day all round and great to see this sort of event available for the future generations to attend, get ideas and ask questions, absolutely invaluable. #safety #medical #medicalprovider #ambulance #healthandsafety

Well that’s a wrap! Huge thank you to a brilliant staff team, sponsors Haleon and Ringway, schools, students and exhibitors that made Surrey Festival of Skills 2024 possible. Over 2,000 students and over 80 exhibitors. (Event video and official photos coming soon). Exhibitors went all out on making their stalls engaging this year and it clearly paid off. Thank you for inspiring Surrey’s future talent! #surreyfestivalofskills #surreycareershub #businesssurrey #surreycountycouncil #surreyeventprofessionals

On the 14th, 20th and 21st of September, Guildford saw the return of our clinician led ambulance responder intended to ease the pressures that the impending winter period places on local statutory services. In this case, part funded by University of Surrey and NHS Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership we deployed a clinician lead vehicle across the footprint of the University and the town centre providing and initial and often comprehensive response to medical, safeguarding and welfare incidents. This allowed us to update South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and either change their response or stand down their resources all together, as well as ensure that people were signposted into the most relevant care pathway to avoid unnecessary use of the emergency department at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust over the local 'Freshers' week period. This scheme builds on previous iterations which saw us initially deploy an 'SOS Bus' type scheme in #Guildford, but on receipt of service use data, we suggested a more streamlined, mobile service as a better value (and indeed cheaper) service capable of fulfilling the aims of a demand reduction/ED avoidance medical service. Our team was also accompanied by a support worker from Oakleaf Enterprise, given recognition that a number of the more complex issues that place demand on the local services can be MH related and that these issues need specialist advice and attendance. Overall, our service worked closely with the security team at the university, SECAmb, Guildford Street Angels and the various security teams and venues in #Guildford and were kept back-to-back busy seeing in excess of 20 patients, a couple of whom were in critical need of medical assistance, and many more that we were able to divert away from statutory services. At the same time, we had one our paramedics assisting at the UoS Students Union in their paramedic led medical room, covering off the medical demand that can sometimes arise from their onsite nightclub. Our Ops Manager, Tom Goodyear had this to say, having overseen the operational implementation of this project "Medirek is a full service safety and specialist medical company providing a range of safety management and medical services. It's work like this that really demonstrates our ability as a company to deliver such a service as well as the value that it can have on a town centre or university campus. It was great to see how robust and well versed the security teams and venues in town and at the university were and I was pleased to see that they really welcomed our support. I hope that we'll get to develop this offering further as we slip further into winter and we'll continue to look at how we can continue to increase the service value, given that this is a joint funded venture." If in doubt, engineer it out... Last week I was on site for a client, I'd been to a number of locations on behalf of this client and only really attended this specific location as it was on my way out of the capital, trains had all gone wrong due to the #CrowdStrike issues and I was able to jump in a car with them and go to this location. We're glad I did go, as it we encountered some pretty poor H&S practices, that weren't in themselves particularly obvious, but very much a product of 'this is how we've always done it'. In one particular case, in order to move a section of rigging a series of pulleys had been installed with long chains that stretched from floor to ceiling. Great, you can operate them safely from the ground, no issues. However, for some reason, the operators (not employed by my client I hasten to add) had opted to pull all these chains up to a gantry level approximately 15-20ft off the ground, and operate them from there, or lower the chains down every time they needed to make an adjustment (which, given the use case of the equipment can be multiple times a day). As such, you had various members of staff consistently being at risk of a fall from height, not to mention the drop risk posed by items getting dropped from the gantry onto the majority of crews working below. The oddity was that this equipment had clearly been designed to be operated from ground level. It's why outside, independent advice can be so valuable in a variety of contexts, but especially in the field of #riskmanagement and #healthandsafety. Usually when we profile and index hazards inherent to a site or work process, the first thing we'll look to do is establish if there is anyway we can remove the risk, or if not minimise the human exposure to that hazard as much as possible. Only then do we then look at mitigations such as PPE and such. So again, if in doubt, engineer it out. We can help you with safety audits, risk planning and variety of consultations for a number of industries such as #Film #TV #Motorsport #Events and #Aviation as well as providing more 'standard' consultancy to employers devising the safest way to undertake your work and safeguard your team. A conversation is always free, and if we can't help with your particular need, we know of some great other HSE professionals we'd be glad to refer you to. 🌐 www.medirek.co.uk ☎ 01483 663932 📧 operations@medirek.co.uk #HealthAndSafety #Safety #RiskManagement #Events #EventProfs #WorkingPractices #SystemsOfWork #SafeSystems #SafetyEngineering #PPE #RiskAssessment #HSE

Yesterday morning, we had a last minute request to cover some sickness on the in-house medical team for the Students Union at University of Surrey. One of our staff, Callum, was able to assist and undertook an 11 hour shift assisting their paramedic in covering the University of Surrey's Grad Ball overnight. Part way through the night, one of the graduates, presumably worse for wear, offered to take a photo of Callum and sent him a copy. Unfortunately, it's a little blurry... but it looks like they had fun! We can help with a wide range of medical and safety needs, including: 📋 - Risk Assessments and Safety Audits 🚑 - Medical teams (including sickness cover!) for venues, events and more ⛑ - Medical Rescue where patients might present in non-typical, less permissive environments including outages and shutdowns. 🚙 - 4x4 and remote area medical, allowing specialist access or prolonged patient support. 📽 - Film Set and Stunt Cover, including risk assessing, safety management and medical support. 🌐 www.medirek.co.uk ☎ 01483 663932 #Medical #Medic #Paramedic #EventSafety #EventMedical #University #UniversityOfSurrey #HealthAndSafety #Rescue #FirstAid

😅 An incredibly busy period for us recently, but lots of great taskings completed for a variety of clients, amongst many things, some of note: 2 weeks ago saw us providing medical cover to a new event near #Chichester, working with a new event always presents unique challenges but it something we really enjoy as we're able to bring our experience and lessons learnt from previous events to help advise and mould. One of our management (George Millis) prepared a post event report complete with some suggestions from our perspective on how things could be modified to ensure a good, resilient service, but ultimately make things more efficient for the client during future iterations of their events. Last week, we were then back in #Windsor again, this time on behalf of The Crown Estate, providing a medical team and response vehicle to cover a staff open day which took place across The Great Park and an event we were all to happy to assist with, our Ford Ranger 'Rescue Ambulance' serving as an excellent base for our operational team. We have also been out for WWF-UK, last week in the beautiful (but very wet) #ForestOfDean to provide a med centre and cycle response for a charitable fundraiser event, requiring the ability to potentially reach remote patients and then work to safely to remove them to hard-standing to be met by additional medical resource. Again, this is easily achieved with our medical rescue skillset and range of clinicians/staff. And then finally, Saturday evening saw us in #Guildford town centre once again providing a diversionary first response service across the town centre footprint whilst the #EUROS were underway. Working on behalf of Guildford Pubwatch and Experience Guildford, this was an incredibly productive evening with our crew being first on scene to an RTC, from which we were able to contact and stand down South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust - something that clearly came in useful as their service became inundated in the later stages of the evening leading to major response delays. Our crew again was able to assist with a seriously injured person who we deduced was suffering an agitated head injury and we were able to ensure that the initial plan of letting the patient return home with their friends, and instead they were stablised and in light of delays, was transported by Surrey Police to Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust with our team in tow to ensure a proper handover was given and the patient received expedited care given our concerns. While things aren't letting up just yet, we still have plenty of additional capacity. If we can help with anything from safety to medical, please get in touch! 📧 operations@medirek.co.uk ☎ 01483 663932 #medical #eventmedical #ambulance #resilience #healthandsafety #BID #townsafety #firstaid #rescue #eventprofs

Yesterday evening (20/06) saw us provide a medical response 'car' to #Guildford town centre to provide an element of resilience in the face of expected demand increase due to the Euros. Funded by Experience Guildford and Guildford Pubwatch, this clinician lead scheme came off the back of the 'SOS bus' service that we ran just before Christmas. However, on our recommendation, was vehicle based allowing us to be able to deliver required care wherever it was required in the town centre. This also allowed for reduction in staffing which resulted in an ultimately cheaper service. We were on hand to respond to requests for help from any of the venues or indeed Surrey Police, networking into their CCTV control room via Townlink radio. Our key aim is to divert unnecessary calls away from South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, or given geographical advantage provide a quick first response to more serious incidents where time is much more critical. We also ensured that we were shown as active on GoodSAM for the duration of the shift, and it was via GoodSam that saw us deployed as we looked to return to base following our stand down, arriving on scene nearly 10 minutes before the first trust ambulance resource who we are all too happy to support! Should you have similar requirements, or want to discuss a similar scheme with us, please contact: operations@medirek.co.uk 01483 663932 (Please excuse our slightly naked vehicle, full livery pending!) #medical #rapidresponse #4x4 #towncentre #townsafety #medic #eventmedical #resilience #eventresilience #medicalrescue #rescue #firstaid #eventspecialists #eventprofs

Green Lights at #NottingHillCarnival! 👏 When one of our client's first approached us a few weeks back, they had already had a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) declined by the local authority and concerns raised by the local police. This was largely due to the lack of planning and consideration for the licensing objectives in how they intended to run their licensed concession that will operate within the footprint of the Notting Hill Carnival. The Carnival period is notoriously hard to seek a TEN within, given the added pressure on local services, increased footfall and accessibility issues, and as such the local authority are especially stringent if they feel there will be any negative impact from planned activities. It is the responsibility of the organiser (or in this case, the applicant) to ensure that they manage any demands they cause appropriately. It is very rarely accepted that an organiser is reliant on local statutory services! We were able to quickly work with the client, acting as an agent for a new application and produced a comprehensive event management document that focused on the licensing objectives and provided clear guidance on planned mitigations that would reduce or entirely remove any negative impact. We then reapplied on the client's behalf and have been successful, with no concerns or even questions raised by the Local Authority or Police, and the client is free to focus on what's most important to them, actually planning the rest of their operation! We can help you with a range of things, not just licensing support, but also risk management and safety consultancy, event safety and even medical support! Farming and Agriculture continues to unfortunately be one of the leaders in workplace injury, likely caused by a number of factors surrounding the fast-paced nature of the work often influenced by a number of unpredictable factors such as weather, moisture and even machine availability! However, farming is an intensely risk rich activity and these should be properly managed, often with quite easy measures such as simply assessing the activity and ensuring that all involved are operating from the same guidance and have training in what they are doing day to day. Basic guidance in how these hay bales were stored, and process to identify that the storage of the bales was potentially unsuitable could have prevented this incident. Not to mention, potentially a lone worker safety system, as Mr Rolfe appeared trapped for a good period of time until a passing dog walker alerted emergency services and Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex deployed, ultimately saving his life. There is no question the strain on British Farming, but to directly quote the HSE inspector, "Even with the considerable financial stain on UK farming, prioritising health and safety not only ensures workers are kept safe but also improves well-being and health outcomes alongside supporting productivity and efficiency on farms" https://lnkd.in/ekdVGh8B Need help in risk assessing your business, event or venue?
