𝗠𝟮𝟯 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 The M23 rebel group advanced into mining regions near the city of Goma in the DRC in January 2024. According to key reports, the group reached Goma on 25 January 2025, a development that could disrupt #tin and #coltan exports. The DRC is believed to be the primary source of global coltan production, although Rwanda is the largest exporter of the material. Much of this #tantalum is considered to originate from the DRC before being transported across porous borders into Rwanda and neighbouring countries, such as the Republic of Congo. Exported material typically moves through the border town of Goma into Rwanda before being transported to ports on the East African coast. Project Blue's Kyle Pronk and Luke Adriaans have taken a closer look at the situation - their insights are available on our website: https://lnkd.in/eqX5VwbT

At the start of 2025 it is fantastic to announce the publication of a UK National Materials Innovation Strategy 📢 We are all aware that materials innovation touches every strategically important sector in the UK, powering the advancements urgently required for our modern world - this strategy quantifies and draws out the economics behind the sector and the opportunities for the future. As the first-ever cross-sector strategy for materials innovation, it articulates the need for a more collaborative effort to ensure the UK remains a leading location for materials innovation, attracting investment. Alongside six major economic opportunity streams it highlights the highest priority areas as two cross-cutting themes - the digital transformation (Materials 4.0) and sustainability/circularity. These are essential to accelerate discovery and translation of innovation aligned with environmental imperatives, resource constraints, national resilience and economic growth, all of which will underpin our future national industrial strategy. The Strategy is the culmination of two years of hard work and dedication from the Henry Royce Institute, The Materials Innovation Leadership Group, and the entire materials industry in the UK to whom I'm extremely grateful for their efforts to date. The support from the advanced materials team at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Department for Business and Trade has been invaluable in shaping the findings. Later today, I'll be speaking at our launch event in London to announce the strategy formally. That is when the work truly begins to deliver the transformational impact vitally needed for the materials industry. We will be looking for the leaders across industry and materials innovation to shape and drive the implementation of this strategy and join us in a national partnership which will turbocharge the delivery of a sustainable, resilient, net zero, prosperous future. https://lnkd.in/eBPrN-73 Perspective Economics ScotChem Urban Foresight #MaterialsStrategy #AdvancedMaterials #Sustainability #Materials #MaterialsInnovation #SustainableMaterials #materials4.0
