Why farmers need Moa. That's the topic of this short film we made over the spring and summer, with the help of farmers in Brazil, the US and the UK who wanted to show us the tough and pernicious weeds they battle with every day to protect their harvests. The film also features on our brand new website (more of which next week!) Many thanks to farmers Antonio, Derik, Luis, Rachel, Tom, and Will; and also to ISSIMO, BigSmall TV and Astor Film Productions Ltd. #agtech #foodsecurity #clinteastweed

Could there be natural herbicides under the sea? We think so. Some marine biologists estimate that more than 90% of ocean species are still unknown to us. There is incredible diversity among the new organisms being discovered, with many possessing DNA sequences unlike anything else described on land or under the sea. For Moa researchers, this novelty and diversity in the ocean biome offers an exciting opportunity as we continue to build our bioherbicide development pipeline. Our proprietary GALAXY discovery platform is screening natural marine compounds from the libraries of Biomar, a specialist microbiology company, to find ones which could help farmers protect their harvests on land. https://lnkd.in/enEG4hv2 #agtech #foodsecurity #bioherbicides BIOMAR MICROBIAL TECHNOLOGIES

Calling all chemists, biologists, botanists, agronomists looking for a quick Friday hit of cutting edge science! Check out our new blog: this week featuring Moa researcher Dr Bilal Nizami. https://lnkd.in/eKhpeSbB Bilal likens the challenge of finding safe and effective novel herbicides to finding needles in a haystack - only the haystack is bigger than the number of stars in the universe. So he's using generative AI alongside Moa's proprietary discovery platforms - which have already found several very promising "needles" from over 750,000 compounds so far screened - to reduce the hunt to something much more manageable... #agtech #foodsecurity #science

We can’t predict the future - but we can create it. That’s the message we want to get over with our new Moa website. The world is relying too heavily on too few solutions when it comes to food security, and that’s not sustainable: environmentally, economically or socially. So at Moa we believe in taking the future into our own hands now, while there’s still (just) time. moa-technology.com Thanks to The Clearing, Hambly Freeman and ISSIMO for their help bringing our purpose to life. #agtech #biotech #innovation #foodsecurity

We feel your pain, Kelly Degelman - and we’re working on a solution. Kochia is one of the tough and pernicious weeds on which we’ve just been field-trialling some of our novel herbicides - and the good news is that the results so far have been excellent.
Ok Kochia. Go home. That’s enough already. WE NEED TO FIND A WAY TO CONTROL THIS EFFECTIVELY! Robbing yield, moisture and nutrients. Plus it just won’t die. This is a huge problem in our area with pulse crops that can’t out compete.

We can finally reveal our big news! The results are in from our northern hemisphere spring field trials, and they are amazing. Some of our novel compounds are already outperforming commercially available herbicides in the field, which is especially impressive given they haven't been optimised yet! Our CTO, @Shuji Hachisu, presented the trial data yesterday at the American Chemical Society Fall conference in Colorado: you can read the full details here https://lnkd.in/e5_jp35M. #agtech #foodsecurity #wheredidtheweedsgo

Is the idea behind Moa Technology hundreds of million years old? Our co-founder, Dublin-born Liam Dolan (Ó Dubhláin) has a great interview in the Irish Independent newspaper about his research at the University of Oxford into the early evolution of plants from algae, which gave him the knowledge and insight to see how the modern day global problem of weed resistance to herbicides might be tackled. #agtech #weedscience #wisesage

Well done András!
Had a fantastic time attending the 2024 European Proteomics Summer School in Brixen! Special thanks to everyone who stopped by my poster for a discussion, I now have a lot of new and exciting ideas for some further experiments... To anyone in my network thinking of using proteomics or already using it but not yet an expert: do consider attending next years event, the lectures and workshops are world-class, and the location is beautiful.
