Momentum is providing transport consultancy support for YTL Developments (UK) Limited on its large mixed-use masterplan development located in South West England. The masterplan for the site aims to become a flagship of urban design and placemaking in the UK, setting a tone and quality for the region. 🚶♀️🚲 The way we design our cities directly impacts our health. Momentum recently responded to the Change NHS consultation, highlighting how better urban planning can ease pressure on the NHS by preventing illness at its root. Poor air quality, car-dependent neighbourhoods, and lack of green spaces all contribute to long-term health issues - yet planning policy rarely prioritises public health. We believe: ✅ Health impact assessments should be embedded in planning decisions. ✅ Developments must prioritise active travel, green spaces and high housing standards. ✅ NHS reforms should align with transport, housing and environmental policies to create healthier communities. ✅ Place-based initiatives to integrate “healthy streets,” active travel networks and green spaces into urban and rural planning should be expanded. By planning healthier places, we reduce the burden on our healthcare system. It’s time to make the link between transport, urban design and community well-being stronger than ever.
