Today's Autumn Budget introduces significant financial changes with the aim strengthen public services while adjusting the fiscal landscape for businesses. Substantial increases in the National Living and Minimum Wages, enhancements to state pensions, and a new focus on investment in health, education, and infrastructure are, it's hoped, going to increase UK productivity and result in faster than forecasted growth. Key measures include a 1.2 percentage point increase in employers' National Insurance contributions, raising it to 15%, with a lowered earnings threshold from £9,100 to £5,000, set to take effect in April 2025. To support small businesses, the Employment Allowance will be increased from £5,000 to £10,500, alleviating some of the additional tax burden. We look at the key points for employers and recruiters and suggest four things UK employers should do now. #Budget #UKBudget #Growth #MinimumWage #NI #NationalInsurance

🔍 Preventing and Responding to Workplace Violence In the UK, workplace violence remains a pressing concern, with thousands of workers facing threats ranging from physical assaults to verbal abuse each year. Such incidents not only impact employee well-being but also expose businesses to significant liabilities. We've looked at the advice and information from the government and industry bodies. 🚨 What You Need to Know: Types of Violence: From criminal acts to internal conflicts and even hate crimes, the spectrum of workplace violence is broad. High-Risk Sectors: Healthcare, retail, and public services see higher instances of violence, with nearly 15% of NHS staff reporting physical violence last year. Prevention and Response: Effective strategies include thorough risk assessments, secure workplace environments, and strong policies against violence, supported by training in de-escalation and, where appropriate, self-defence. 🛡️ Employers should establish a zero-tolerance stance on violence, offering support through conflict resolution training and access to mental health resources. In light of the increasing shift to remote work, the issue of domestic violence also demands attention, requiring discreet support from HR departments. 📚 Resources: The Health and Safety Executive and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) provide valuable guidelines and training resources that can help enhance workplace safety and employee well-being.
